  • Heads Up to All Dubbers!

Well it seems that our cars are getting very popular with thieves these days. In the last two weeks I know of 3 MK4 VWs that where broken into. The object seems to be getting any personal items out of the car and garage door openers and registrations for the address.

So please everyone make sure you are not leaving lots of items in the cars making them attractive to thieves and keep those door openers hidden if possible. I do not want to see anymore of us getting ripped off!!

Yup. Safe and sound for the winter. There isn't anything worth stealing out of my winter beater. Just smelly gym clothes

            Hey Gang,

            (Nice to meet everyone)

            Aston here from CVD.

Just wanted to add some info to NVD for a bit of an extra heads up for ya regarding the recent rash of break-ins!

Just spoke to Alice @ SCFC and apparently there has been 10 cars broken into that THEY know of in Calgary since last week. After talking to Alice I discovered that MarketPlace on CBC aired a program that showed people how to break into a VW MK4.

            **** UPDATED ****
According to recent info the Marketplace special didn't actually mention the MK4's but showed how to "generally" break into cars.

            So....
            Alice knows of 10.
I know of 2 (Me & My Neighbour)
Another 1 or 2 from NewVeeDub
Plus there were about 4 listed in my previous post on CVD

So right now the total number of cars that I know of is about 20 in less than a week !!!!!

ALL of these break-in's have occured AFTER CBC aired the "report" on MarketPlace... Bit too much of a coinky-dink in my opinion.

Could everyone who has had there car broken into so far start adding their name, stuff that was stolen, and any other pertinent information to this post so that we can keep track. If there are enough people there MAY be something that could be done on either a Legal Level that would help compensate up for repairs or modifications to make our cars safe again or enough people so that we can bulk buy the replacement parts at a cheaper price from our dealerships.

            Last but not least....
Could somebody who uses either of the other 2 dealerships in town get a hold of them and see how many break-in's they have had and provide them with the information on how to visit the CVD Forum to add their info.

            Thanks Everyone !

                Broken into =( Stuff stolen

About the same timeframe, my 99 Golf was broken into in the parking lot of Red Deer College, with some muy expensivo sunglasses (and muy expensivo prescr. lenses as well) stolen. Lock cylinder buggered, replacing with a piece of metal and a full cap (not the one with the hole in it, like the stock cap for the keyhole) so people can't do the same again. Only way in will be by remote, I hope it keeps working for me!

Make sure you have a hidden open swich if you do that or you're screwed if your battery dies. Basically it's the same situation as guys who shave their door handles.

I am seriously looking at a full aftermarket alarm - a compustar or something.

                    alarms

Is it possible to get an alarm/starter for the vw. I would be interested if so, maybe we should get a group buy going.

Fu**ing media. When are they going to learn to shut their mouths. Making a news report is one thing, but providing potentially dangerous information is entirely another.

Yes, the compustar 2WFM (or something like that) - does alarm, stock alarm, turbo timer, car starter (5000 foot range) won't let you grind the starter etc. Problem is for a manual, you are looking at 600+ installed. Most places like A&B/Soundsaround won't touch car starters in a manual.

                          Alarm/starter

600+ ? Meh, I'd still be interested, my lazy ass doesn't want to walk 30ft to my car in the morning! =)
And the added security of a real alarm system? Hm. I lost around 400$ when my car was broken into last...

If your looking for Compustars go to Audio Concepts up on 32nd, They do awesome work, I've sent 2 people there already and I"m getting one when I get my next car. They can do a manual car in an afternoon usually.

Yah that's who my main man at Soundsaround recommended. I'll give them a call for pricing, then post - maybe we can get a deal if more than 1 person goes in with me.
