shifting troubles

ok so all my gears work good besides the wine i get wile im accelerating. but my car will pop outta 3rd gear when i accelerate. does anyone have any ideas what this could be and maybe a solution to this anoying problem? thanks

Your airbox secondary hose (top left of the airbox) has probably come off and fallen into the area where your shift linkage is, or some other obstruction. Check that? Ie, when parked have someone shift to all the gears, you can see the shifter arm moving around.

Typically if your transmission is popping out of gear it's usually time for a rebuild, something is either really worn out (synchros), or there is something bent (shift fork).

I'd check what Khyron (above) suggested before looking for something more expensive.

Not sure on this, but I think if the gear can't hold a load like accelerating, the gear is missing teeth and can't hold the power from the engine. I broke teeth off of my reverse gear on my 93 VW CL and if I didn't hold the shifter in place, it would pop right out of reverse everytime.

ya it started doing it in all my top gears now(1-3-5) im thinking the tranny is toast

what kind of car? shifter bushings or linkage, if it's a mk1, 2 or 3.

check the linkage at your tranny. there is a little plastic rod that has probably broken, or came loose. it's a really easy repair.
