  • LED for boost guage

    Hey guys,

Do you know which blue LED matches our VW blue color from cluster?

    Any local shop has it?

The bulb came with 42draftsdesign's boost guage doesn't match too well.
    42draftsdesign has LED

Is it the one comes with the guage ?
What is going to happen after 5500 rpm?? :whipped:

There's a kit you can get but it's over 30 bucks US. It makes the VDO look closer to stock. However, the needle will be dim.

A while back you could get an exact match LED for $4 US. But I don't have the link, it might be available on Vortex... basically someone ordered like 50 shades of blue from some LED manufacturer and found out what the color code was... I am sure I found it through Vortex originally.

TRUE THAT..... I just want my boost gauge to be brighter.... I can't even see the needle at night.... so maybe i'll hit up radio shack or some lighting place to find one brighter

The kit I was referring to is the Judo light. He has a price breakdown of why it's so expensive (all materials). Getting the needle brighter is pretty much impossible because of the way it's shielded from the light source.

What baffles me, is that people are willing to spend hundreds on euroclusters, dash trim, getting that perfect OEM panel etc. Yet when it comes to spending $$ on a non-ghetto gauge that's in your face at all times everyone becomes cheapos. :mrsly:

The lights can be found at any auto shop which has tons of jap style accessories (ie phone holder, seatbelt pads, blue lightbulbs etc)

those LEDs are supposed to be connected to the 12V output.

It is not hard to tap it to the dimmer switch

emn, what else info you want? :mrtongue:
they cost around CAD$20 for a set. I saw $20 for 3 leds, $20 for 2 leds. They are about the same blue!
You may like to find the LEDs which are able to remove the outer shield so that you have enough room to put the LEDs behind the gauge.
you can use heated glue (not sure what it calls) to hold the LEDs in position or you may have any great idea

It is so getto if you know how I put everything together, but the outcome is pretty nice, I won't show anyone how it looks behind the pod :donking:

oh one more thing, make sure the LEDs are at the right position!! Else you may see some spots are dimmer
