  • Great Experience @ Fifth Ave

Just got my car back from 5th Ave. I am very pleased at how I was treated, and their new location is awesome.

They did a lot of service, but at the same time saved me money. It cost me less than I was expecting, and they did not overchange me or charge me for just "looking" at a problem.

Everyone was really friendly, they promtly offered me a ride to the University and phoned me to talk about what was done before I came to pick it up.

    Really great.

Sounds good Kris.. I only use NL for thier location and since I bought from them however they seem to really like me and always phone and ask how my car is doing, etc. I'm a little peeved at them not resolving my seat wear issue yet but its not that big of a deal so I will bug them next week when I get an alignment done by them or mudflaps

        Hey Kor,
I met you this evening when you picked your car up. I'm glad you had a great experience with us and I 'm pleased you posted on the forum. All that ever seems to get posted are bad experiences so I thank you for this one! Had you ever taken your car to us for service before? If not, what made you give us a chance? Also, if you ever bring your car to us again and are not satisfied with your service, please come talk to me!!
        Cheers and drive carefully!!

          Heya Derek,

Thanks for speaking up, I completely didn't realize who you were I think I even met you once before at a NVD meet last winter, didn't you bring a demo VR6 out? But I am not very good with remembering names... and people. ... and other things.

This is the first time I had any service done at 5th Ave. One reason I chose 5th is that I just wanted to check out the new building! However the main reason was that I would like to have a dealership that I can go to regularly and with which I can establish a good relationship. I previously visited Northland (because of location) and wasn't totally satisfied with how I was treated (lets just leave it at that). I also had my car towed to South Center once (because it was close by), and again I wasn't too happy. Fifth ave is a long ways from my part of the city, but you were the only VW dealer left to try!

What made me happiest was that everyone I talked to did not "talk down" to me. Even though I had one issue that couldn't be resolved (my doors are sagging a bit in the front) at least someone called me to talk about it and didn't charge me anything for looking at the problem. In fact there were no "mysterious" charges on my invoice at all. I guess its funny that I find the lack of unjustified expenses a surprise.

Anyhow I will definitely come back to 5th when its a little warmer... maybe next time I will make a fuss over some warranty issue or another just to see what happens! :mrlaugh:

I had the opposite experience at 5th Ave on Friday. I schuduled a 16,000km service but they only did a oil change for some strange reason. So I have to come back on Monday, and drive from the NW. Not only that, but he wouldn't accept my 10% coupon from the VW Club.

So... I'm sticking with Northland for all my servicing needs from now on. They screwed me big time before, and now service was not like Northland so why bother coming back?

On a positive note I would only buy a VW from 5th Ave.

I had the opposite buying experience at 5th Ave. So, I bought from Northland. I personally thought that NL had a great sales staff.

Mike and Nick are both great at 5th Ave but the manager is a little uneasy about letting cars go.... Norhtland does have better prices but I was always treated good at 5th Ave so I bought it there. Ohh I went on a test drive with the blonde girl. :mrtongue:

Ha ha. Ryan, I had to read your post over again. I thought you said you wanted to test drive her. Not, test drive WITH her.:mrlaugh:

Anyway, my sales dood was Ron. An older guy, he seemed reasonable and sales negotiations were to the point.

I'm actually kinda glad I didn't have that blonde as my sales person. I think if I had her, NL woulda ended up with a lot more of my money.

Like anything, it's hit and miss. Max went to 5th Ave to look at a Golf, and they treated him like an idiot. So he went to NL and will being buying it there once his S2000 sells. But some guys hated NL and 5th Ave gave them the gold treatment.

I think the dealers really need to do some sort of secret shopper thing.

Mind you, I'm sure the salespeople get a bunch of joyriders which waste time they could be using for a sale. My sales guy was Larry at NL but he jumped ship to 5th Ave.

Hey Guys, I've been lurking here for a while, so I guess I will come out of the woodwork.

I really think that it is all hit or miss as well as what ones personal tastes are like, and what they look for in the sales "experience". I tried to lease my first new VW through NL, and was not too happy with the way that I was treated. I went to 5th ave the next day, and they gave me what I was looking for. That is where I went for my new car as well. I personally like 5th ave, and the new location is really nice.
