  • Snow ice and ESP is FUN!!

holy cow the roads up here in the ridge are getting pretty covered tonight and looked icey so i went for a 20 minute rip around the hood since there are no cars out to test out my ABS,esp, etc HOLY COW car handles pretty good with the stock tires on all you people with snows:whipped: haha you'll have awesome traction tommorow
ESP is cool to play with i would go around corners way to fast and make my car slide all to hell and it would stabilize and fix itself with my help too
ABS in these cars is freaking strong kickback!! damn that pedal really vibes back at me.. which is good

so all of you with ESP if you can tonight have some fun if not and its safe tommorow try it out.

turning it off just made me drive like any other car and spin crazy haha

Yeah sometimes ABS makes my leg hurt from the kickback

my only fear this winter and living in the ridge is the main road is a big friggin hill which i have no issues climbing is coming to stop at the bottom where at light is and if people are dumb i'm gonna see a rear ending happen i just know it.. so tommorow i'm gonna be extra careful

yah i hate the huge hills in calgary. going on the one on 14th str going southbound just before 16th ave. I had to come to a stop there and couldnt get going again last winter :(

Just slid backwards/sideways. Eventaully burned through the ice and got grip.

No ESP on my car but the LSD is sweet, it's actually a good winter car, except for today 'cause my tires suck, I made part way to work this morning and gave up and came home, lucky for me I can do work at home. The best is still my 81 scirocco with the 190/70/r14 tires on it!! The pizza cutters are awesome. That was a great winter car, and perhaps will be?!

Yeah, I got stuck trying to get out of my driveway today. So I dug it out and parked it. I had someone come pick me up. Maybe it was the type of snow (the wet hard packed kind), but I was slippin' and slidin' like a mofo.

Just wanted to say that I am really impressed at how well ESP actually works. After reading lsc2g's post, I was dying to get out on the ice and throw my GTi around a bit. Had the opportunity to do that this morning and seriously cannot believe how good it works. I would get 'er up to about 40km/h down a side street and pull the e-brake until i had a nice slide going. Then, no sooner could i release the e-brake and ESP had already corrected my slide and had me pointed straight down the middle of the street. I guess what i'm saying is, if you're planning on buying a VW in the future and drive on snow and ice occassionally... Put a nod down for me in the "Yes to ESP" column!

              Cheers All...

I was pullin the ebrake to slide around a turn - I think I was also giving gas, not sure. Anyways the CEL, ABS Light and the Ebrake light all lit up, and I had no more ABS. Turned off the car, back on - ABS light still on, nothing else. Activated the ABS and it was back - light went out 2-3 seconds later. Weird.

I remember my test drive (02, no esp but still good) - my salesman took me on a sheer ice road and said "ok go 60-70 and then slam on the brakes, while turning left and right" - the car did it perfectly. Then he said to go try that in a ford explorer or something - you'd end up in the ditch.

I'll second that! Haven't been able to drive my car in almost a week. I think I remember reading you bought a package from TireTrends right? Which rubber did you get?

I ordered the Kumho (KW17) package from them on Wednesday, should be here tomorrow or Tuesday. They can't come soon enough.

                            Holkswagon,

I have been driving this week on the Pilot Sports and haven't had an issue.

I had the W400s last year mounted on 15" Jetta VR6 rims. However, dumb me, I left them in Calgary at my parents when I moved. I'll be picking them up this weekend.

Where are some good spray washes here in town? I live downtown.

I can't believe you've been driving on Pilot Sports and haven't died yet. Holy ****. Please, I beg of you, don't do it anymore. If you *had* to stop you'd be in deep trouble (and so would everyone else on the road).

...but perhaps the roads are in different shape where you live... you'd be dead in Calgary.
