  • Diamond Kote

I'll soon be signing some paper work that will make me a whole lot poorer but a whole lot happier, if you catch my drift.

The question is, which of the last minute sales tactics are actually worth it when signing the papers on a new/used car?

    Diamond Kote?
    Paint protection?
    3M?
    Tint?
    Undercarriage?

    Help a brother out!

Diamond Kote? Depends what you are getting done, I would not pay for it.
Paint protection? Paint comes with warranty
3M? Yes for sure, but make sure you are not paying more than you could get it done yourself for.
Tint? If you want it, you can do this for $300 yourself, why add to the price and have to pay more interest.
Undercarriage? This is great on the East Coast, don't think it is really needed here.
Current: Golf R and a corporate lease nobody cares about

The only thing I would get done is the 3M. Paint protection is just fancy wax which you can do yourself. I would get it tinted, but not by the dealer. They sub-contract it out and mark up the price. Not sure what diamond coat is. What is it?

        Re: Diamond Kote

From what I understand Diamond Kote is a resin they put on your glass, primarily the windshield that strengthens the glass and protects against rock chips and cracks. I think they also warranty all chips and cracks with replacement of the entire piece if it cracks. Anyone who knows better can correct me on this if I am wrong.

I would refuse them all and then just take the car somewhere to get 3m done the way you want it on the places you want it.

            Re: Diamond Kote

Its actually Dimon Kote not Dimond Kote....hahahaha.

anyways Dimon kote works amazing its very expensive yes but it works very well. There warranty is also good. They will replace your windsheild if it dose carck. juat be sure read the fine print for the Dimon Kote as it could vary from dealership tp dealership.

Paint protection is bull crap I was d detailer at many dealerships for many years. paint protecction is a heavy duty wax. Your best bet it to get the car waxed/polished once a year. they charge you alot the paint protection and trush me it takes a experienced detailer less than an hour to to it and its usually done with a very thin coat so i would forget about that.
Tint if you want it and can get it included in the deal go for it. juat make sure that whoever is doing the tint knows what there doing as there are alot of halfasses out there.
Undercoat, no if and or buts DO IT! But only if you plan on keeping the car for a long time. If your buying used make sure the car isin't undercoated already before singing to get it done. Even if the salesman says it will get redone, it wont. The detailer will put it up on the hoist, see that it has been done and then put it on the ground and mark it as done.

as for the 3M....I am an installer shoot me a pm with make, model and year and I'll hook you up with a good deal!!

Serial #'s etched on all of the glass is another scam dealerships like to sell, refuse it if you can. I mean if my car is stolen I dont want them to find it and give it back.

                Re: Diamond Kote

i also worked in automotive detailing for dealerships on and off for the last 7 years. and saw many things to horrible to speak of. any way heres my 2 bits

undercoat = waste, new cars are undercoated before e-coat primer, and alot of new cars, your new dub included, will have a lot of plastic paneling under the car to direct air flow. any undercoat in the wheel wells and on these panels is useless and any exposed bodywork isn't going to rust, just won't be jet black when you pick it up.

3M/tint = get someone else to do it if you can afford the upfront charge, roll it into your financing if you can't.

paint protection = ditto to previous advice, horrendusly expensive for what it does, just give her a good polish and wax every spring.

diamon-fusion (the actual brand) is awesome. i've had my car for nearly 3 years now and it got 1 chip first winter on the highway behind a truck, flicked up a massive rock, about 2". then nothing till last spring when i got my first crack, and my 2nd crack this x-mas. i'm getting it replaced before the 3 year warrantee for about $50.

Where does the diamon kote? I would like to get a quote, need a new windsheild soon.

Also anyone on here do polishing for a decent price I need the gli done and don't want to do it myself cause I'll have to go out and buy all the tools and supplies and i just can't justify it. I want someone I can watch/help cause I will no longer trust dealerships once everything is done for this season.

                    Hey,

If you like I can help you with the diamon fusion application. As far as polishing your GLI I would reccommend Jed at mobile reflections. He's not cheap but does and amazing job!

dealer tried to convince me to get the paint protection thing. i'm glad i dodged it. rather wax it myself. but this diamond kote intrigues me. anyone know any locations out in vancouver that they could recommend? i might look into this.

Is there anyone else who has tried the diamon-fusion? I have seen the packaging, not much too it and the dealers swear by it but we all know how that goes, would love to hear more feedback on it!

I have it on my car, I think its great. Just have to pay a $50 deductible when its cracked to replace. I have 3 chips right now, and they will fix for free, they refers to Kings glass. It also needs to be inspected every year to keep the warranty on it. I think its worth it. Never have to scrape my windows of ice/snow.
