  • Painting Engine Block.....what paints the best?

Hey guys, I aquired another VR6 12V complete engine and am finally starting the tear down and massive cleaning of the cast iron block. I am planning on painting the block but, I'm not to sure what the best products are to use and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I also would like to primer the block first before paint. Is there such thing as high temp primer?

I am also strugggling with color choices too. All I know is I don't want the standard black engine. Its too boring. The colors I am thinking of at the moment are; red, orange, jazz blue(04' R32 blue), mercedes silver, granite. Any ideas could be helpful and will not be overlooked.

Pictures below....went with "that time of the month" red.

Not much help here, other than jass blue is not '04 R32 blue. The colour you're looking for is called Deep Blue Pearl. Jazz blue was on the 25th aniverssary editions, and there is a pic of that colour here:

auto shops have tons of engine paint in different colors. bbq paint also works well. just as long as it's high heat, you should be fine.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

Haha the funny thing is, you're not the only one to suggest that color. Could be an option.

So after thinking of all the colors to choose from, I decided to go with red. I know...so original! But i thought it would look the best.

I will be putting it all back together as soon as the parts arrive and I polish some aluminum.

Finished product....without assembly. I used Duplicolor as I heard it was a good product to work with and gave a good finish. I'm really happy with the end result.

on second thought, should've gone with blue.

red is sexy. especially if you have a white black or blue car. i guess dark green would work too. gotta have matching calipers.

I'm not a big fan of red, but that actually looks really good. Should look great in your car!
