  • Wiring Help.

Hey I need someone who knows a lot about the wiring in the trunks of MK4's

I need a wire that is connected to the headlights..., I am thinking rear light, but dont know which wire it is that turns on the bulb in the rear when you turn your lights on.

I also am looking for one that is switched with the ignition, I am wondering, is that rear cigarette lighter socket ignition switched or is there a better location to use?

    TIA

you can use the main accessory from under the steering column, as for the tail light, test em. I could figure it all out for yea but im going to vegas friday and work everyday until then. Just get out the test light and be carefull as to not probe anything in yellow harnesses haha there airbags.

Your best bet would be to unplug the tail light harness and use a test light on every pin while the headlights are turned on until you find one that works.

I would also suggest never ever to use a test lite on a car with aribags, it is not worth the risk. My guess is you are looking for the rear backup light for a backup camera? That is about the only reason I can see for needing a rear light wire.
If you are just hooking up the illumination wire for a new deck it should be on the stock wire harness. If you have a double din you will need the switched wire under the dash but a quick search will show you a ton of pictures where that is.

I got it all wired up, i just needed the headlight thing for dimmer.

Everything is in the trunk so it was just easier to try and hook it up there then hide the wires all the way to the front like i ended up doing.

The dimming wire is on the brain? They are usually on the head unit I believe. If you need dimming you are going to have to run a wire to the front.

Dimmer will be behind your light switch, if you have a airbag safe test light your fine! A guy at my work a few years back didnt and blew one right in his face haha, couldn't hear for a couple days.
