  • TDI Christmas

This might of been posted before...

Twas The night before Christmas, when all through the Great North,
TDI customers were shivering, waiting for heat to come forth.

The glow plugs were hung by the Chimney with care,
In hopes that the new duty cycle would not cause the alternator despair.

The Jettas were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of front end covers danced in their heads.

And mamma in her ‘snowmobile suit, and I in mine,
Were ready to head out for a long winters drive,

When out in the driveway there arose such a clatter,
Twas daddy starting the TDI, “those sounds are normal, nothings the matter”.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Questioning how long the thick smoke would last.

The moonlight could not reach the new-fallen snow
As the thick smoke screen blocked all the objects below.

When what to my wondering eyes should show,
But a man carrying a hose, a front end cover, and software that changes the glow.

I knew in a moment this must be Saint Heat,
Since he yelled “No longer will you have to depend on the heat from your seat”

I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a warm night”

But we still freeze not as bad thou.

Well hopefully the new GTI will still be a good looker, and I have owned the Smart longer than any car in my life! But it is damn cold in the winter!

As much as I loved my TDI -- it is the most uncomfortable car in the cold -- with the exception of the original VW Beetle.

My TDI is fine in the cold and heats up as fast as any other car. Not sure what you guys are doing....

                    ^^^

Then somehow your TDI is breaking some of the basic laws of thermodynamics.

                      Re: TDI Christmas

The coolant glow plugs provide heat to the heater fairly quickly ( a minute or two). You need to drive it a little differently to get the engine temps up quicker than later. The heater provides lots of heat even before the temperature gauge moves.

I know I've only driven it through 7 winters, every day commuting from one side of town to the other, so maybe I'm confused....and it is actually an ice box.

Yours is the only one then. TDIclub.com is full of complaints about the lack of cabin heat.

The TDI is so efficient that it also does not create much heat.

I could actually watch my temperature gauge slowly drop by 1/8-1/4 as it would go from city driving to the highway or Deerfoot.

My brother also had one that was exactly the same.

Unless VW have figured out a fix for this lack of heat since 2004.

My MK3 TDI had lack of cabin heat, but my 2000 TDI is fine. It holds the heat super good, city or highway. I don't have any cardboard or nothing blocking my rad either.

Something to do with the mass of fuel the engine gets?
