  • NOOOooooo window fell in this morning :(

Holy Cow of all the darned weather to do it. not 20ft from my house, went over a snow bump and 'broing' the passenger side window collapsed into the door. Damn cold dddddrive into work, still, should be glad it was warmer than the weekend or yesterday I suppose.

Anybody experienced in putting these back in? im guessing it just the crappy plastic clips but i havent done one before. Found the write up on Vortex but not sure if ive got all the tools (mainly the big torx for the door sides).

Anyone familiar with doing them and willing to help me out?

Need to buy the regulator kit, it's about 70 bucks for both doors. Not sure about single pricing.

Door isn't too bad to take off, but yah you need a special 8 point or something for the door lock. I have one in Cougar Ridge if you want to borrow, I think it was 5 bucks at Nappa if you just want your own.

I think the first one took me an hour, 2nd was quicker. My tint did get scratched though, %^$%^$.

They didn't for me. If I buy the MK6 GTi from SouthCenter, they're going to be discounting my window regulator purchase.

In the US it is, not up here.

A few years ago i got into a fight with the service manager over my sisters car as her window fell in.

I managed to get em to supply the parts for free and i had to pay for the labor.

I have the same kinda problem with my mk4 today. The ice messed up the drivers side window. It goes down and then up and then does not come down again. The motor still works. I tried again and pushed the window down, it came down and up. But not properly, the back part of the glass came up at an angle and got stuck. :(
Any idea where I could go to fix this this?

The window just came out of the clips, my passenger side did that last week. No special tools required to fix, just 2 different torx sizes (one for the interior panel and one for the clips).

About warranty - Northland VW fixed my window when it dropped for free a few years back.

Re: NOOOooooo window fell in this morning :(

it maybe did come out of the clips, i tried to wind the window down to talk to a friend and it was iced closed, made a crack sound then was jsut free wheeling so i guess it then shook loose from driving and fell down. Think ill have to wait till the weekend to take a look though and thats the bummer

hope its not knackered my tint to much though.

Ill have to pick up that bigger star bit from cambodia tire / Nappa then.

The parts desk at the dealer said that getting the clips only is hard to fit and most people also buy the regulator and install all at once. Getting the clips off is too hard or something so replace the reg at the same time saves that hassle so ill have to see i think.

man it was cold this morning though

Thanks for the offer Geoff ill see if i can pick one up first though.

I went to NorthLand, I asked if it would covered by warranty. They said they don't know. They only know that the jetta had a extended warranty, they don't know anything about the GTI. They said to book it in for an inspection ($59) and then worst case scenario it would be around $300.

I dont know what to do.... Would anyone like to have a go...? I can provide lots of beer...

Fairly retarded. The fact that we are getting different treatment due to a border.

From the sounds of it, I don't think I could ever buy a VW newer than a Mk2. They seem to have sooooo many problems, that cost a billion dollars to fix, and you can't do it yourself.

Not too bad of a fix. You will be not required to remove your door lock or handle. I have repaired many of the fallen windows (approx. 75). I will repair it for you for $50.00 plus parts. It will only take an hour to do or less.

Hey thanks for the offer, im going to take it apart tomorrow night, or maybe over two nights if the cold defeats me, and have a look whats happened, ill make a decision then on what i see.

                            Cheers

To Bonfire - i honestly dont think ive had a car ive had to put so much money into as this one, i usually buy 5 years old and sell at ten and this one has had a list of things that have bugged me, makes me doubtful of buying a new VW, though the Scirocco would tempt me sorely So miss my old MK2

Hey I was driving home I realised that the window moves lower and lower with the music really loud and the base up..... lol

Kordain, Ive spent a lot this month on the car aswell (and I got a timing belt change coming up in 5K). Much of it just being wear and tear and a bit of bad luck. Apart from the Scirocco, what would your alternatives be? (I'd still stick with VW).
