    Re: Perfection

Thought the mk6 gti had the same suspension as the euro model unlike previous gen gti's? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Either way having seen a few mk6's in person I think the wheel gap is pretty decent, better than the mk5 and worlds better than every gen before.

Could'nt imagine driving a slammed car the last couple days.

One thing that I love about these MKVI's is that there are no ugly rub strips that need to be shaved on the doors or bumpers!!!

        Re: Perfection

MKVI suspension is over an inch lower now in Canada than MKV setup. I believe the Euro and NA ride height is now identical.

Yes that is what I have heard, although the last of the MKVs may have also been a bit lower. Does not look hideous with stock drop and wheels but I think a cup kit would be perfect.

And yes no rubstrips is sooo smooth!

I know my 2008 was actually raised compared to the US models that got revised suspension in 2008. But I think with new bumper regs for Canada that's not an issue anymore. Here is a comparison between and 07 and 10 model. The owner of the red one claims the shipping spacers were just taken out before this photo was taken so they might settle a bit further.

I wonder how a 2" drop from a stock 4x4 suspension would handle in the snowstorm we just had. I'm contemplating either an H&R Sport Cup kit or some coilovers. I prefer setting it and forgetting about it but if a 2" drop sucks in the snow...

My 4x4 stance destroyed the ridiculous amounts of snow on the roads.

                Re: Perfection

Even in my mk4 which is hardly lowered i still plowed a fair bit driving around, I'm not sure how the MK6 without the plastic lower bumper piece will like the snow. I think the lip addon would make it like it even less.

Don't do it if you're worried about snow. I had my 08 GTI on H&R supersports (1.9") all around last year. I got stuck a number of times even though I ran 16 inch snow tires. I destroyed my undertray and it was a pain getting anywhere because of the ground clearance. But then again we had record snowfall last year so maybe that's why.

H&R Touring Cup Kit here, I was perfectly fine during the snow storm. You can hear the snow rubbing against the undertray but even last year before the drop it did the same thing.

                      Re: Perfection

I think it all depends on how much and where you drive. If you live in the far out burbs, maybe don't get a lot of plowing you may have more issues. A few years back I ran a MK3 Jetta down probably 2.5-2.75" with relatively minimal issues, same with any time of year, driving a lowered car just requires more patience and awareness.

That being said I am not going to preorder a suspension setup for the GTI, but I think I would be happy with a simple 1.5" drop, no coils this time though.

Well right now I live in suburban Red Deer so the snow levels were pretty high until they got plowed. 4x4 stance did me well

So a 1.9" drop won't be too bad?

The MK4 is lowered on a 35/40 cup kit (not much of a drop at all) and the streets were just brutal. definately missed the 4x4 status when driving this past weekend!

I honestly cannot find a single pic of my old Jetta, anyone have one anywhere?

Here is a pic of the beginnings of this club and the first few members, mine was the 337 in the back, was only a couple months old at this point!

my car is lowered pretty good, and before this car i had a fairly slammed mk3 glx. drove both in winter, i'm not quite as much a snowplow now as my mk3 was, but just drive careful and its fine. i'm on coils, never measured lip to ground height or ftg height or anything though.

if you can still go over most speedbumps straight on even if you have to be careful.. you should be ok.
