Transmission Issue

Hey guys,

I have a 2001 Jetta 1.8T. Its an automatic. Last week i was driving up that hill on Memorial and my car wouldnt shift out of third. I took it to a parking lot and messed around with it. It went into 1st, 2nd and 3rd fine but it still stay in 3rd gear in Drive.
I shut it off and came back out a little while later and it was fine. Its been driving fine ever since.
Any ideas as to what this could be?

Did you get any codes?
MIL on?

What is the mileage on the car?
When the last service (transmission)was done?

Maybe a tranny oil leak?

its a mk4 auto . get prepaired to replace it

I had it rebuilt at Bert and Jacks last year around May.
No engine light is on or anything.
Should the tranny fluid have to be replaced alreadyÉ

As for the mileage of the car, it just got to 156k

Ok, so a new issue arose today with my gay little auto.
If im stopped at a light, I have to give it a fair bit of gas before it actually moves. It rolls back on hills like a standard does. Just about nailed the guy behind me.
I had this issue about a year and a half ago. Turned out to be a worn forward clutch. Bert & Jacks rebuilt it... It shouldnt be doing this again already...
Im getting tired of dealing with the transmission for this car!!

it would be pointless to keep repairing that automatic... i would replace it since its most likely on its way out.

That's why most people swap in a 5 speed when their O2M's fail.

That was my plan the first time but it was like twice the price. Had I of known it was gonna do it again I would have!

Passat auto won’t work, he needs a transaxle.

I hate rebuild trannys, they don’t seem to last , at least in my experience.

does anyone know if there is still anything left of tunedub's used part department. I know they said they went out of business a while ago and had a huge sale but their site is still up and I swear I saw a kijiji listing recently. Might be a place to call for a used tranny, that is if they are still around. Also call bernie4parts on cvd, he has a mass amount of used parts available and im sure he could set you up with something.

BTW JustALilbit do you have an HP computer by any chance?
