wow. it's all toast. i can't believe you've been driving with such old suspension. you should have it towed to the nearest shop.

but for realz, if you don't have any complaints about how it rides/performs now, then don't worry about it. it will let you know when it's done.

LOL. to be honest I really dont know if the ride is crap or not. I have not owned it since new and really don't have a comparable; it may have always been a harsh ride. It doesnt bounce around but you can feel bumps man.

ya, if it's abnormally bouncy, get it checked out. that's usually a good indicator of worn struts. and the vr6 is a little heavier up front.

Actually it is not bouncy at all; it just rides like a brick.

upper strut mounts are probably toast.

Re: Lifespan of OEM supspension bits

Normally struts go first and it gets bouncy as said above.

Not sure how to make it ride like a brick, might have aftermarket suspension in it?

Re: Lifespan of OEM supspension bits

not sure but my TDI does something funny - just changed the tires - similar mileage.
with the car lifted I was able to press the wheel down about 1cm (both sides), so I popped the hood and looked at the top of the strut. There's a gap there and the whole assembly goes down - probably worn bushings or maybe upper strut mounts as mentioned above.

check if your car does that.
                  put.......put.......

                  .... ... .. .

Upper strut mounts aren't too expensive. But removing the struts from the car will be a pain.
