Hey Everyone,
This past weekend was a chance for me to try and eliminate a bunch of nagging issues with my Jetta. That said, I struck out on one of my projects which is to rectify my steering wheel issues.
Problem with my steering wheel is that it seems to have no power. None of the stereo or cruise buttons work and neither does the horn. Also, when I hooked it up to the vag-com, it cited an airbag error which (to me) would be consistent with the lack of power to the wheel.
I took apart the steering wheel and tested all the individual components within the steering wheel for continuity and all is well with the controls. I tried testing the clock spring for continuity and got nothing.
The question I have is this. The yellow connector that connects form the steering column to the clock spring - can I disconnect it to check for power while the battery and airbag are connected? I want to test if power is getting to the column side of the clock spring to help either isolate or eliminate the clock spring as the culprit for all of this.
Finally, I noticed a small round button that is integrated on the back of the cruise control side of the steering wheel that presses in ever so slightly. What is that for?
Many thanks!
Rob
