        Re: golf wagon

I saw one at the dealer a few weeks ago, I also love it a lot. Definatly a giant improvement.

Not a MkVI but a middle refresh that worked.

I don't own a V but I was told the interior is closer to VI if not entirely.

I prefer the new MK6 front but not sold on the back still, just prefer a 5 door GTI.

I like it. Would do one in a TDI/Highline/standard. Have to finish paying for the garage before I consider such things though....

Be careful. The current Golf wagon is the Mk5 Jetta wagon with tarted up Mk6-style bodywork. And it's built in Mexico, like the Jettas.
The real Mk7 Golf wagon is not due until 2012.

I still prefer the mk5 front and the steering wheel on the 6 is ugly too.

I was aware of these facts, but do you say "be careful" because the MkV wagon has been problematic in terms of quality, etc., or just that buyers shouldn't think it's truly a MkVI? I've been thinking that when my lease is up, I may get the new wagon TDI (manual tranny).

I was already thinking that before the restyle, as I was happy enough with the "Jetta" wagon.

Are there quality issues that people know of with these?

Me and lindsey put a deposit on one last nigh! Super stoked its a really really nice car. We ordered a white highline in the 6 speed manual trans. When the rabbit was in the shop a few weeks ago they gave us a 09 jetta wagon as a loner. Big mistake!! It wasent a diesel but we loved it (and so did the dog!)
So we went and repce a couple and then decided about a week ago we were going to order one. Well we had a chance to stop by fifthn ave last night and put the deposit down. It should be arriving in about 3 to 4 months!

We are super exited and can't wait!

                            response to chrid -
No, nothing against the Mk 5. I have a Mk5 Rabbit and it has been great. I was just pointing out that the "new" Golf wagon is not that new. And they call it "the biggest Golf ever made" because it is in fact the Jetta. Not that it's THAT much bigger. I believe the Mk7 Golf wagon will be a redesign, but who knows if it will be better, or what mechanical advances will be in it? The Golf wagon that has just gone on sale in the UK is probably not representative of what engines we'll eventually get in North America.

I don't know if a Mexican factory assembly robot is any worse than a German robot. So I don't have an opinion about Mexico vs Germany assembly (I've only had a string of the German ones).

If I needed a Golf wagon now, I'd buy one (after choking a bit on the price jump compared to my Rabbit). The Rabbit was expensive to build and VW has sought to cut costs on the new Golf line -- who knows where. I'm waiting until 2012, just because I don't need one now.
