  • Electronics experts help me out pls

It seems my 4 channel RCA outputs on my Avic D3 died today when I installed a new amp.....Subwoofer out still works, but the rest is nothing. Tested the output of the outputs, the sub RCA's at 65mV and the rest is 0. I've had this happen to an ollld deck back in the 90's, and I purchased some transistors to replace the ones that burned out. Now seeing how this deck is in essence a brick to me without these, I decided to open it up because some of the Avic's had internal fuse circuits (ground) on their preamps. Unfortunately I can't spot anything near replaceable in that type of fashion, so I'm hoping someone is somewhat knowledgeable in this area that can point me in the right direction.....

This is what the transistors look like, except in the deck they have 5 contacts

I assume one of these is bad. Are they available for purchase locally? I had gotten a handful from Kenwood when it happened before....

Now, on an Avic forum, others with dead RCA's have contacted all the grounds on their outputs together, and they work again (hackish I know).....Does this mean anything to anyone?

If the trans is not burnt or looking damaged it is likely they are ok. Are there any burnt traces on the board? There are tons of tests that can be done but all involve a bit of work. Also those transistors will likely be hard to find. Without a schematic and parts list it is next to impossible most of the time to find parts. Even more so on mass manufactured equipment. PS there are likely a billion different transistors (or likely FETs in this case) on the market.

Could be a ton of different things then.

Why would you take it to autotemp when there is a pioneer repair shop in town?

Re: Electronics experts help me out pls

I've opted just to sell the Avic. Everything works (inc. sub pre-outs) except the F/R pre-outs. I can't use it as my truck is completely rewired for amp use....I'm sure someone will want a full featured DVD Nav unit only using the internal amp for the front stage....plus it'll be cheap....I already bought a replacement....

I could take a look at it but no promises as to when. If it is cheap enough I might even pick it up
