  • Heated seat not working.

    Hey guys,

So sometime between last winter and now, my driver side heated seat has stopped working. The passenger one works fine.

Is this a common problem? I am at a loss at where to check or what to do to try and get it fix. Anything would be helpful! thanks.

Maybe the switch on the dash?

On a related note: What year is your car? In July I got a notice from VW that the warrenty on my heated seats was extended until June 2010. Maybe yours has been extended too.

I've heard that too. Apparently the roller switches that turn the heated seats on/off can fail. Not sure how to check if your current one is good or not though?

        My car is a 2002.

I hope it is something simple like the switch. But yes how would i check?
If they are easy to remove could i try my passanger one on my drivers seat?

Try the passenger side switch there, same thing happened to my brothers car, other than for him the element was burnt out.

On second thought, I am willing to bet it's the element. Apparently they are not soldered together to well.

To get at the switches remove the dash cup holder (or dummy plate like what I have) slide your hand palm up, under the switch and push towards you and do the swap. It's worth a try.

                Thanks guys.

After some reading it sounds like dieing switches are pretty common. I will try switching them tonight to see if thats indeed it. ( fingers crossed)

How much am i looking at if its the element?

Might be able to pull the heater out of my old seats for a cheap price.

GRRRR so the switch does not seem to be the problem. I tryed the passanger switch in the drivers side and still no heated seat.
What would my next step be? I need to get this fixed asap so i can sell my car. Thanks!

Yep, your element is toast and it should be covered by the warrenty. I had the same problem and VW fixed mine.

I just called the 1800 number for vw and gave them my vin. There are no recalls for my heated seat :(

Would it for sure be the element thats gone? Or something inbetween?
What a pain in the ass.
