  • Windshied Wipper Motor?

Hey guys, I've been meaning to post this for awhile now.
Everytime it rains out and I have my wippers on, they'll be working for maybe 10 mins tops and they get stuck! 20 seconds later they start working again and it STOPS withing 1 second, so basically every 30 seconds or so my wipers will actually wipe my windshield....could this be the motor? is it hard to replace?

    hey,
on my car they were getting really sloppy and misbehaving. It was the bolt that holds the main linkage on the the wiper motor. The bolt was halfway un-done. Is there any play in the wiper arms? maybe its something similar?

there is no play no...they start misbehaving after that 10 mins period, they'll randomly get stuck where ever they want on the windshield.. so i always gotta duck and stuff to see the road lol, and when they start they will wipe for like 1 second and get stuck again but not in the same place as last time...

So the linkage is all good and free?
Linkages are a common problem on MK4's as they tend to seize up. Make sure the linkage is free and if it's not that then the only two other things are the motor and the relay, but I would go the motor route first.

Just an idea, but likely not correct...

On a BMW, if you are low on washer fluid, what will happen is the wipers will work for a bit and then stop at some random position and sometimes blow a fuse in the process. This is done to protect the motor (sounds strange I know). Being that VW are also German, might be worth checking if your washer fluid is up and it changes anything. Who knows, maybe BMW and VW buy their washer parts from the same supplier...

Sounds like the linkages to me.

            http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3788513

IIRC was about $80 for a new linkage. I did the repair (ream out to clean out damage), lasted about 3 months.

                    Dude just do it urself.

Take the wipers off...remove the plastic cowl, under 3 bolts and its out!

Take and clean the linkage, lube it up , and put it back together!

Not a hard task at all. The hardest part is putting the cowl back so it sits flush with the windshield.

It is your linkage btw 110% sure!

and yeah you do have a point, might as well do it myself, because last time i had a Turn Signal problem...it would click non stop in the car....friking annoying, i called george he said he needs to replace the whole arm $250!! that they're only good for 150k... researched, and ended up getting contact cleaner and problem is solved...

**** i wish i knew the name of tools in english...**** it sucks being a fob sometimes!

so now that u took the screw off of the wipers...

                              http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/pr...=1253414265799

top of the pic...use something like that...but make sure its kinda angled. Not sure of the proper name of the tool. But put one end on the bottom of the wiper and the other on the thing that the screw went on. It will come off. Dont lean the tool against the windshield tho.
