    Re: The New Golf R

Im guessing this is gonna be priced in the same price range as the sti and evo?
Really nice car, would love to see how this compares to the new focus rs.

      Re: The New Golf R

you really think it can compete at those prices? STI at around 45k sounds too high for a GTI with significantly less power

I would say more likely in the 35-40 range for price, but we just have to hope we actually get it!

Seems the specs are being set at 270hp now and 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds too.

          Re: The New Golf R

I think 35-40 is reasonable, even 45 with options for an R since the focus RS is the same price as the evo and sti.
Well have to wait and see.

            NOTE: U.S. Prices quoted.

Looking at the 2004 VW GTi VR6, the MSRP (before options) was about $22k.
            The 2004 VW R32 was around $29k.
That's a 32% premium or around $7k over the GTi model for the R.

Looking at the 2008 VW GTi 2.0T MSRP (before options) is about $23k.
Factor in a couple thousand for the difference in engines at say $25K.
            The 2008 VW R32 was around $33k.
That's a 32% premium or around $8k over the GTi model for the R.

            See a pattern?

So if we say, put the new MK6 GTi at $24k... the new MK6 R will come in around $32k. In Canuck funds... that's likely $37,975 CAD in VW Marketing speak.

Add in Freight, PDI, Couple $ in options, GST, you have an all-in price of about $43,500 CAD (before negotiating)

            Cheers...

                Re: The New Golf R

The new STI is $39,995 for the base model and you can negotiate about $3,000 off that if you know what you're doing. So that's about $41,000 all in on the road.

If there was a 5 door version then I would get this. I need the extra 2 doors!

Latest rumors are this will be coming to the US in both manual and DSG versions with a low 30s price tag, not sure what that means for us but getting closer!!!!

If a 5 door manual R comes to Canada, I will promptly sell my MkV and buy that. That's the ideal kind of car I want as a daily driver
