  • Bleed Valve Installed on Line to Wastegate

Mod: Bleed Valve on Line to Wastegate

    Rationale: Reduce surging, prolong boost.

    Cost: About $50

    Difficulty: 1/10

Potential Dangers: Boost spikes to 20psi. This will reduce the life of a K03Sport turbo significantly. Opening the valve too far might induce limp mode.

Results: Eliminated surging. Holds boost spike longer.

Future Work: Replace with Regulator and Relief valve to eliminate boost spike.

I was doing some crazy "testing" on deerfoot with this valve, it really made a difference. Only problem is that it got really hot, and now it doesnt seem quite as adjustable any more. I think I will have to wait for it to cool off and see if I melted it

Yeah, the valve is definitely messed up from the heat. I bought it from Forge and its supposedly for this purpose, so I don't know whats up. I may be able to repair it but I haven't tried very hard yet.

However the first couple of runs as a proof-of-concept were awesome!

I'll look for a high temp bleed (needle)valve around town here we use them all the time on high pressure steam lines

Sure Dale that would be great. I plan on checking around some more. I am more confident that I will not blow up my turbo now that I have tried this once.

In any case I did this just as an experiment and not as a permanent solution - I plan on eventually replacing my N75 valve entirely if I can find the right parts.

              I'll keep you all posted.

Jut ordered the n75 J valve. Does this install opposite then then regular ones? How should i take off the stock clamps?

Look at the picture above to see how it installs! Its different than stock. To get off the clamps, I would use cutters of some kind.

The connector on the N75 should be facing the driver. This means that The line to the wastegate should be on top. The pressure input line comes in from the side. The longer nozzle goes into the intake pipe.

Hey Kor did the J valve smooth out your boost curve to a more linear acceleration pattern from the stock F ?

Before my cat-back it smoothed it out. It was really nice. After the cat-back it was back the way it was before.

You guys are in for a treat... I'm currently sourcing/developing a hybrid between a "chip" and a manual boost controller.

Its a wastegate controller but also compensates for fuel so you don't lean out...

the backlit LCD display on my device will show: Boost, Wastegate Signal, EGT (with probe), AFR (with WB-O2).

It will have to be wired to appropriate devices and wires but after that... the sky is the limit.

I ordered all the equipment/software to develop it while I'm in chicago.

I've also started on designing a new PROPER turbo kit for the 1.8T... exhaust manifold is designed but won't have a prototype until mid november when I return. I'm going to work on intake piping december. I hope to have a working example for spring.

Anyone have any cutting tools that I could use?

Sean, thats great! Very ambitious though. I know for sure there is room for another turbo kit... what do you consider "proper" though?

How do you plan to calibrate the wastegate controller device? I know this is not a "one setting fits all" type of device... and current electronic boost controllers really don't seem to cut it.

If you are thinking of doing this beyond just the prototype, I am sure lots of people here at NVD would help out, myself included.
