  • Stripped bolt help

I was changing out my rear rotors on my mk4 and on the drivers side the rear caliper carrier bolt (the 8mm allen) strippped, well im tried many, different ways to get it outta there, vice grips, hammer, yelling, wd-40 its effed. if any one knows a way that might work, or wants to give it a shot before i take it to tunedub and just get george to fix it. Let me know Call or text me 403 880-8827
    Thanks

Sounds like you will have to drill it out.....

I had the allen head on that bolt strip out on me when I did the rear bearing. Luckily I had a welder working in my shop that day so I had him weld a nut on the head so I could get an actual wrench on it. Then replaced it with a new bolt.

        Re: Stripped bolt help

        i bought these:
        http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows...iece%2BSet.jsp

cdn tire links dont always work... but its "
        Mastercraft Extract-it 5-piece Set"

I used them when I stripped the allan bolts on my intake. They have tapered spiral teeth that cut in to the outside of the bolt. If there is enough room around the bolt to get it on, they work really well. Just tap in on a few times to get it started, and twist it and the bolt out.. if your lucky !

Try hammering one size larger Torx bit in there and getting it out. doesn't always work but it has saved me the effort of drilling and extracting many times.

i don't know if your close to hidden valley, but you can borrow these extractors and give them a shot if you are.

Hammering in a torx or tripple square can work to. I've had it work and had it fail.

That bolt typically has loc tight on it and is in there pretty good, I would not put my money on the extractors. Like was mentioned either use a torx, or go to a standard size, hammer it in straight and try and finesse the bolt out. I did a set of rears last friday, I know how tight these get and can imagine the pain once it is stripped.

                    Re: Stripped bolt help

Alright so i welded on a nut to the striped bolt, and the nut sheered off, and when doing so it ripped the brake line off the fitting on the caliper..... soo im hooped now, anyone have any ideas? i know the bolts gonna have to get drilled out, then they might as well throw on the rotor, and then a new fitting, then a bleed.. does anyone have a idea how much that will cost? One last thing does any one have a flat bed trailer? im gonna have to get it towed somwhere. unless somone can do it for me
                    Thanks!
