      Bringing this old thread to life as VW has SUSPENDED the recall right now and hopefully those that have it done don't get too pissed with VW. Seems as if many people are having problems starting there car when it gets a little below 0`c. Don't know what the problem is exactly, but here is a link to the TDICLUB where it is talked about a bit more.

        The basic issue is that the old ceramic glow plugs were 7 volts and the new steel glow plugs are only 5 volts (which is why the ECM flash was required). The hard starting when cold is one of the issues VW is having with this repair as well as some ECM were not responding to the flash etc. I think the ultimate solution will be a move back to a steel glow plug that runs at a higher voltage. Reports are that VW is working on it and to stand by.
