  • mk4 sputtering on startup

I'll start by saying I'm thinking its sparkplugs thats causing my issue, I'm at work and can't do anything about it right now so I thought why not ask....

Heres the situation, I get into my car in the morning, afternoon whatever, if it has been parked for a day, start it up and try to take off like I have for the last 120,000km....But now it almost stalls out, and then sputters for about 15 seconds afterwards until it gets back up in RPM......I now have to let it idle for about 2 minutes before I can drive off......After that there is no problems with hesitation, or misfiring or anything. No codes, I've gone through all my coilpacks already, so I'm kinda left at the plugs being just plain worn out....Anyone had this problem?

    Re: mk4 sputtering on startup

yeap i had the same problem only heres the thing:
I was at work, end of my shift w/e i start up my car, crank the AC and took off in about 1 min i came to a stop light and it sputtered for about 10 seconds and then it went back up in the RPM...scared as **** I shut the ac off and problem was gone...so YES it may be your spark plugs but take the alternator into consideration as well. I havent fixed the problem yet but i let my car run about a min before i take off with it and it works fine...just my 2 cent

Yah, no probs with A/C so far, or with anything that would indicate an alternator (dimming lights, charge light, dying battery, etc), I'll try the plugs and run a charge test on it.....

I think your problem with the A/C is the same as me taking off right away, ANY load on the engine results in sputtering badly, but the car will idle fine. The A/C places a significant load on the engines of these....
