  • Tyre Noise Problem

In the last three weeks im getting a strange noise. I dont know how im going to explain this. Ok, you know you have the usual trye roar noise when your driving? I got a very strange very low frequency 'whaaa whaaaa whaaaa' tyre noise. The noise speeds up when I drive to 60km+. The noise seems to be coming from the left front wheel.
About three weeks ago I took my tyres off to put mud flaps off. I was thinking perhaps I may have tightened the bolts inconsistently. So I took off the front left wheel and put it on again. Same noise. Im also gettng a bit of stress on the other ring off the left front tyre. Im guessing it could be allignment. But just to throw this out, could it be anything else...? Its annoying as hell now!

    (I got a Mk4 GTI. )

        hehe...

if its front left, see if it gets quieter on a right turn. The extra force on the wheel will probably quiet is down momentarily if its a bearing. Other things could include a separated tyre, which you could tell if you swapped that wheel somewhere else on the car, or through your spare on the front left for a quick drive.

I've got some noisy tires as well, swap wheels before bearings.

I swapped the tyres, noise is still there. Took it to George, its the wheel bearing. *sigh*

oh well. if the tires were damage, it probably would have been more expensive.
