  • Suspension recommendations

So I have been noticing my suspension is about shot and it is about time to be replaced. Does anyone have recommendations for what I should go with and the cheapest place to buy from? Right now don't have a ton so spend and am not looking at going with coils or super low but I would like to hear your thoughts.

if you're not looking to go "super low", i'd say that the most cost-effective upgrade would be to run a 20th / GLI set of springs with the strut / shock combo of your choice.
the springs (and sometimes complete suspension) are around on the vortex all the time, and are typically priced really well.
from there, "the sky's the limit". H&R, Eibach, Bilstein, Koni all make "cup kits" and coilovers. I would personally choose to stay away from FK product,.. even though the price is tempting, anything in their "affordable" category is complete crap.

i ran a 20th / GLI suspension set-up on my old TDI and it was great. Should have been how the car came from the factory in my opinion.

        Re: Suspension recommendations

Hey Brent, I have all my stock suspension from my VR6 which would go fine in your TDI. If you want to look at my FK kit up close you're welcome to stop by any time. It's the 35/50 I think which drops the rear a bit more to offset the rake. The front might be a little low for your tastes, I do scrape occasionally. Another good option might be the Eibach kit which will preserver the softer initial stroke with a little more firmness side to side. Unlike others I have had 0 issues with my FK kit.

brent how many KMs on the OG stuff?

i'd say if you could find it put on some 20th anni or gli v2 suspension that should be good for DD

Like stefan said I already have the 20th ae suspension but I think the front struts are about gone as they have well over 100k on them. I guess I am just going to have to look around for a good deal.

I like it also, maybe I will just replace the struts with something better.

                      H&Rs or konis

actually brent koni has those magnetic shocks/struts that are meant to be used with stock springs so you could check those out! that would be cool

i'm running an FK fully adjustable coilover kit...

springs are manufactured to a certain height, i suggest coilovers all the time, every time. it'll only cost you a few more bucks, and set your own ride height

Money is in short supply these days. I think I am going to have to put it off a bit longer till I get my timing belt done.
