  • vag-com and knock

    i was reading this: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115367

and i found it interesting that vag-com has some pretty good knock sensor and timing logging. looks like channel 20 will log how many degrees the computer has pulled from each cylinder when knock is detected.

but is this number based solely on knock or does it take preventative adjustments? i.e. based on IAT, load, and ECT. because those values also have associated timing modifier tables.

anyway, i'm gonna do a few runs today and see what my numbers are. because the example he has shown is mostly all 0's and i find that interesting.

i don't know what that guy who wrote that tutorial was driving. but i was a bit confused when reading it becuase i didn't expect to see all 0's (That's for sure). i'm expecting that final timing retard value to include the other modifier tables (iat, ect...).

in my 91 octane tune, i was seeing up to 12 degrees of pulled timing.

0 degrees of timing would be pretty damn slow!
I think 12 is pretty decent. You can always use Lemmiwinks to add or subtract timing.. thats one of the easiest ways to manually adjust it. I added a few degrees a while back.. but dont recall if I reset it or not. You can hit the 'read values' button on lemmi to check.

those numbers aren't your timing; they are timing that's being taken away due to detonation. and i'm wondering if those numbers included any adjustments from modifier tables for ECT and IAT, etc.

So, what's the overall question? If you're looking for overall timing check block 003 on VAG-COM. It includes RPM, throttle position, timing and g/sec airflow.
