  • TT Brake Upgrade - 16" Steel Spare?

My front brakes are warped and on there way out. I found the front spindle assembly with TT rotors ect for a great price, but where does a guy get a 16" steel spare wheel?

    Thanks,

Just thought about this, put the spare on the rear and put a good wheel up front. Answered my own question.

Just a tip if you use the sealant in a tire, it will ruin the tire and need to be replaced.

          Thanks for the heads up!

Have you heard of this stuff? I think this one allows the tire to be repaired still.

I don't think Bob would be too pumped to see that.

I had to use the factory Audi stuff to get the R8 back from Red Deer after a puncture and the tech almost passed out when he took the tire off the rim, and then new tire and new bottle of sealant!

you mean from the smell of the crap?

i've only used that on tires that i was going to replace/chuck soon

but i've heard similair stuff that it screws with your tires or can glob inside causing them to have screwy weight/balance

I think by the book, a Z-rated tire is not supposed to be patched, only replaced, but you would still have to deal with cleaning the crap off of the rim.

That crap stinks and is almost impossible to remove.

Out of curiosity how much did it cost you for the setup? I have been wanting to do it for ages.

He called me and offered free shipping, and good prices on rear rotors/pads.

Works out to be $750 CDN, cheaper than buying used parts and doing your own kit.

There is a guy over on TDICLUB selling a TT setup for $500. He is in Regina so shipping will not be across borders, but this might take you from 5x100 to 5x112 as the spindles were included.

Yea, I'm pretty attached to my wheels, good to know though. I would be concerned about reliability with used parts as well, a car with 90K and wheels bearings with 200K.

MK1 TT setups should still be 5x100, only switched to 5x112 with the second gen TTs.
