  • Son-Of-A-Biotch!!

I wish I had a picture to upload and show you my distress, but on my 98 GTI VR6 the left front strut tower has a 7 inch crack going front to back. Its actually raised the top of my strut about a centimeter closer to the hood. I causiously drove over to Calgary Autoworks to have Lawerence look at it and see if was patchable. NO DICE!! Which is what I thought originally as well. The whole left front strut tower will need to be cut out and have a replacement tower welded in. Pricing the job out from two body shops currently and I should have the price quotes tomorrow.

If the cost is way to high compared to the value of the car, then it will be time to say a tearful goodbye. To bad...I love that car. I`d probably be parting it out or maybe selling it whole, I still don`t know. I`m just shocked. Open the hood to do an oil change, and this is what I discover. Son-Of-A-Biotch!!

The rest of the car is fine other then a few things it needs. I'm still debating on whether on putting the money into her or not. Here's a list of things it would need to be a perfect running VR6:

                  1)Strut tower welded in. $2200
                  2)New suspension...coil overs. 1500
                  3)New chains and guides. 1300
                  4)New rear hatch. ?
                  5)New engine mounts. 300

So that would mean that I would have to put roughly give or take $5700.00 into the 1998 GTI VR6 with 260,000kms. I don't see the point, financially.

I do have one out though. The body shop is seeing if its related to the accident I was in back in the beginning of February. If it is, then I wouldn't have to spend 2200 bucks getting the tower put in. which means that the total now would be $3500.00. I would totally invest 3500 into the GTI if that were the case.
I will be finding out tomorrow if its possible that it was related. Stay tuned. PIcs of the crack will be posted Sunday night as the wife has the camera with here. She's in Ontario at the moment.

If I do get a new car, the possibilities are 350Z, S2000, WRX, or maybe a 07 GTI. Not really a fan of the MK5 GTI'S but would be better financially speaking seeing on how I work for Audi. And yes...no Audi's in the forecast. I work on them all day, and the last thing I wanna see at the end of that day is another Audi...haha
