My 1990 jetta is over heating or is it... HELP!!!!

I have never came across this with any car ive had , so i hope someone can point me in the right direction, cause im straching my head on this one..

I get in the car today at 9am start it up, while its warming up for less then 30 seconds before i go the red temp light starts blinking..

At first i thought maby it was just a weird fluke thing, so i turn the car off restart it and no light...

I make it almost to DF from glenmore and the light comes back on...

Im confused cause my temp gauge is sitting at the first line yet its telling me its super hot... Cause the temp light is blnking

There are no leaks and my coolent is all there..

I just hope its not a water pump problem..

If anyone has some feedback for me please let me know..

I need to get this fixed before this turns bad...

I just tried to start my car after sitting for 4 hours, and after 20 seconds the red temp light starts blinking...

could it maybe be something stupid like a bubble in the hose or something...........I donno im also rubbin the knoggin on this one

it's the sensor or the wire from the sensor is shorted to ground.

should be easy to figure out with a meter.

Put more coolant in, that'll fix it.

The thing is maxed already.... when its off but when i start it the coolant level does go down past the MIN mark...

Is that normal..??

Its funny the coolant is the first thing i checked when the light went on and it was full..

I check again today and the F'en thing is 400ML low... I pulled in a gas station that was open to find out there is no coolant so i filled it up with water... Just to get home... MY light goes off...
