... or loud as F'n hell.

a 3" exhaust is a TON for a stock turbo car. i'll take the 5-8hp peak loss to a 2.25" system to still be able to drive my car at speed on the highway & not want to commit suicide.

i love your reasoning that a 3 inch is too loud . we all (das auto groupe)drive our cars a lot more than most and love the 3 inch . the only 3 inch that is too loud is mine in my tt(no cat no resonator ) . the 3 inch 42 is a great system (accept their flanges . never stay sealed) the eurojet is good also . and there is glatt that we make and will be receiving a shipment soon . as long as the system has a cat resonator and muffler go 3 inch .

i should have mentioned that my turbo is not stock, mine is strieght off the turbo to an APR muffler and it sounds amazing! and not much drone on the highway

                  Re: VW mk4 1.8T 3" Turbo-back Exhaust System

it's good to know that the das auto gruppe drives their cars more than most.

pipe diameter will = more noise. end of story.
for said purpose of argument, compare 2 identical cars with full turbo-back exhausts. 1 1.8t car with an APR 2.5" tb system, the other 1.8t car with an APR 3" tb system. the 3" car is louder. same highflow cats, same resonator / mid-muffler, same rear mufflers.
Yes, the full 3" system will make MORE POWAH. Peak hp in the high rpm range. exactly what a street car needs!

when you're moving enough volume to warrant a 3" system like this GT3040 set-up (car actually made hp in the 600 range on pump-gas / water-meth)... http://www.eurotuner.com/featuredveh...337/index.html
i suppose you win a prize.
the interesting thing is that the car made the hp #'s published in the article on a 2.5" system originally.

anyway... a 2.5" system (or less) will work just fine on a stock turbo car. especially on a daily-driven / highway driven car. some people do like louder cars though (and the ability to say "yaaah maann, it's gotta full 3" exhaust bro).

I have a 3 inch turbo back exhaust with a high flow cat and it can be pretty loud at highway speeds. If you come to the meet on thursday I can take you for a rip in my car so you can hear one in person.

It really depends what your ultimate goal is.

If you plan on going BT in the future, I'd suggest a 3". If you plan on modding your car will basic bolt-ons for a little more pep, I'd suggest a 2.5"

In my opinion, a 3" on a K03 is overkill.
