  • Anyone have any luck with rust warrenty?

I've noticed a rust spot where the paint has cracked on my rear wheel well. I'm wondering if VW will cover that or am I going to get the runaround?

to my understanding it has to be complete hole rust to be covered just surface rust is not..

I have a small ding froma rock on my roof/windshield line that is starting to orange and also one on the passenger door.. just have to have a shop fix it..easy enough

although i read a post on audiworld some guy had a similiar issue to yours so he took a super super small drill bit and drilled the spot.. drove one more winter and then the rust was major and got it covered lol

Actually, the rust perforation warranty is for rusting from the inside out on you exterior body panels only. So, if you get a rock chip or a scrape on the vehicle that over time begins to rust thats not covered. It has to bubble from the inside out to be covered.

Has the paint cracked because of impact?

i had luck when it was coming from behind my door latch, not around wheel wells though.

I've got a genuine VW licence plate frame that has caused damage on the trunk lid. I was going to try that one, just because it was a VW part that caused the issues, but I don't have my hopes up.

I had spoken to somebody at suthcentre fine cars before and they claimed that the rust warranty was only for 4 years.

They obviously didn't know what they were talking about. Ever since 1998 (beetle and passat) and the Mk4 platform, the rust warranty has been for 12years unlimited mileage!

I know right? I told them that but they seem very reluctant to do anything about it... I tried to speak to the customer service manager (a lady), and "she said" the warranty service is only for 4 years.

no there's been no impact... it's just naturally creeping rust... if you go to vw.ca, in the warranty section is says:

                        "Anti-Corrosion
12-year, unlimited distance warranty against corrosion perforation"

It has to be perforated otherwise it's just wear and tear.
You won't believe the crap i had to go thru for a rust claim when i was SM.

All mk4's and on have the anti corrosion warrenty, BUT, the rust does have to originate from behind the paint. If there is a rock chip, and the rust was caused by the chip exposing bare metal, then the warrenty is void in that spot of the vehicle.
VW did have a problem with rust developing from behind the front fender, at the top of the wheel well caused by some insulation foam directly behind the metal. This foam would hold moisture and cause rust to from behind. I have seen quite a bit of these cases and we took care of it without prejudice at our VW and Audi dealership. Just demand your right to have the vehicle fixed under this warrenty and threaten to contact VW of Canada and complain about the way you were treated, and the **** will be handled.
