  • Installing tail lights on a MK4 GTI

I finally bought some used smoked hella tails for my GTI.
Upon opening my boot (or trunk as you call it here!) I realised I dont have the tools or the brains to install them.

Does anyone have some tools and spare hour or so to install them for me please..?. Free case of beer!
Or can anyone point me to somewhere where I can get these installed at a reasonable price?

lol...Vortex is down for maintenance. I don't know if you need any tools for the Golf, but when I did my Jetta ones all I needed was one screwdriver....it's pretty hard to mess up.

LOL I was trying to use the Lambo to tempt someone out to do these for me.

Yeah I looked at that at the the vortex 'how to' as well. The geezer used six tools.
I dont have any tools, might do a trip to Canadian Tire on Monday.

Mr Bicycle, might take you up on that offer!

That's what I had assumed hahah.

Jetta ones are super easy, 3 nuts removed with an 8mm socket or wrench. GTI/Golf looks to be a minor pain in the buttocks but nothing too serious.

All you need is a ratchet set.

Be careful on the drivers side one, as you CAN drop the bolt down between your panel and some other inner parts and lose it forever.
I used some chewed up gum till it was sticky and put it on the end as I was loosening it.

I might be able to help you out I live close to you.

I found a ratchet set somewhere. Iv done the pasenger side. Im in the middle of doing the the driverside. Its giving me a headache. I cant get the amp thing out. Ive unscrewed all the bolts but its not coming out...

I figured it out!!! All done!!

I noticed there is a spare bulb socket (pictured), what is this for? I guessing its for rear fog lights(European). if I put a bulb in it would it work with my standard brakes..?

Stock tails look much better IMO

And no they wont work...you have to wire them, which isnt hard at all to do for them to work with you "brakes". I would not suggest it tho as it emits a much stronger light cause its suppose to use for "foggy" situations only and u will prob blind ppl at night with em on on a clear night!
