  • Turbo on a 2.0l?

ive got an mk4 2.0L 8v, and i eventually want to turbo it, after the engine is ready

but i havent learned a whole lot about turbo's yet because i planned on superchargering my last car but never got around to it, now my main question is... if i want to produce alot of power out of this engine (which i do) im probably going to need to change my cylinder heads to 16v right? anybody know where new heads are available? C1?

also, im about to buy an intake, i can get a nuespeed short ram with a heat sheild from tunerworks for $240, but i was wondering if the CAI from C1 for $329 is worth the extra money for the small gains and colder air?

    thanks

CAI is always better. You will be sucking up hot air even with the shield.

the neuspeed P-flow is a horrible kit. all it does is creatt sound, no performance.

no, for turbocharging your car. i have put alot of research into this because i wanted to turbo my 2.0 at one time, but found it more financially sound to sell the car and buy a 1.8t.

you wont need to buy 16v heads. your 8v head is fine for right now. check out ATP's turbo system, as they're one of the only people out there with a pretty good system for the mk4 2.0. they have a few kits out there that can boost you to around 200whp, which is more than enough (faster than most chipped 1.8t's around here). I suggest you go that route.

right now ATP has the stage1 kit and the stage2 kti for your car.

stage one boosts the car up to 175 hp for $2150 USD
stage two boosts the car up to 200 hp for $2950 USD

and you can also mix and match if you deem fit and increase the turbo size if you want higher hp.

Ummm if you don't know what your doing, I'd say no.

I have a pflow, I bought it for 80 bucks, check out the vortex, they are cheap like dirt there.

smartiepants is correct, the P-Flow system (much like the ABD-Qflow), is just a filter with a heatshield. the filter you can buy at canadian tire for $75 or something, and well the heatshield is just a piece of metal.

i would not suggest getting a pflow if you're looking for ultimate performance, (CAI would most likely be the better solution), but it looks nice ,sounds nice, and you can get them for REALLY cheap on the vortex. since every one usually gets one as their first mod, then realize it doesnt do anything.

Lately it looks like the trend is towards airbox modification, I have seen lots of people posting that they modded their airbox and used VAG-COM to show the gains over a CAI...

very true, ive seen alot of gains from people shaving out the inside of the airbox, and running a 3 or 4" hose down to the bumper. cheaper than any intake + best gains = winnar.

I will soon have a low milage Ko3 turbo for sale, very cheap. But you will need a lot more items to turbo you're 2.0.

Have to agree with Smartiepants and Simon on this one. Unless you really know what you're doing, you are probably better off selling the 2.0 and buying a 1.8T.

im not to familiar with turbos, whats the Ko3 like? how much, id be very interesrted in buying it and saving it till the engine is ready.

no im pretty stuck on modding this 2.0l i heard its possible to convert the 2.0 to a 2.2l and then hopefully that will it give it the potential to produce alot more power in the future. im going down to C1 to check out prices on that see if its doable price-wise

in my opinion, the k03 is far too small for aftermarket turbo applications. the k03 is pretty much maxed out at 200hp, and thats with 15-20psi. the most you'll want to push through your 2.0 engine without all new pistons and forged internals is probably 10psi.

if you're really serious about this 99-GTI, read the 2.0 and Forced Induction forums (and i mean every post!) on www.vwvortex.com

there have been many 2.0 speed freaks out there, and they can tell you exactly what is, and what is not possible. more so than what C-1 can tell you. no offense to C1, but they only know what they've done or are trained to do. and they dont get 2.0 turbo applications in their door every week.

If you don't know what you are doing, go with something like he VF supercharger or the neuspeed one, they are basically bolt on no brainer power.
