  • Resetting VW Key

My VW remote key stopped working yesterday evening. LED still blinks, I thought the battery had gone. So I replaced it. Its still not working, ive looked in the VW manual and I dont understand the lingo to reset the key.

Can anyone explain to me in laymans terms how to reset the key please?

      Re: Resetting VW Key

The chip is in the remote part of your key, not the blade.

To program the remote functions on a new key, get in your car with the car off and the driver side window rolled down.

insert the new key into the ignition

insert your vallet key in the driver side door lock (outside the car)

turn the vallet key towards lock and hold it there

while it is held towards lock, press the unlock button on your new remote for
      2 seconds.

      let go

press it again for 2 seconds

let go and you should hear an alarm honk or something like that.

      Try that one!

If not that one then this one for sure!

        1. Fly your cougar to England and pick up the Queen.
        2. Leave the cougar behind and drive your Postage stamp to the moon for tea time.
        3. Whilst holding your nose, cup your left testicle and hold the trunk release button for three seconds.
        4. Your trunk will open.
        5. Double tap the lock button and wait to hear the alarm sound.

Note: The alarm horn will sound briefly each time the "Open" button is pressed to confirm the reception of the signal during this process.

                          - Wait six seconds after sending last signal, then press "Open" button again.

^ Doors will now unlock (remote unit is now programmed).

                          - Switch ignition OFF. or

                          - Check each transmitter for proper function or Insert mechanically appropriate (old) ignition key into ignition lock.

‒ Using the new key (being adapted), mechanically lock the vehicle within 15 seconds (i.e. driver-side door) or lock it via the internal locking switch and then operate the radio-frequency button on the key.
‒ After a pause of more than one second (but within 30 seconds), operate the radio-frequency button on the key a second time.
‒ The adaptation procedure has been completed and is confirmed when the vehicle blinks twice.

I did this but no joy. I can resent my second key though. I asked VW at South Centre. They said its shot and would have to get a new one.
