  • 3-Cylinder VW or BMW anyone?

    Are you kidding me?
    http://www.motorauthority.com/bmw-an...er-models.html

Are we all going to be driving the so-called "sewing machine engine" cars soon?

I'll speak first: Over my dead body! I'd rather drive a 4-Cylinder BMW Motorcycle.

Don't worry. It will only be an option, not the standard engine across the board. But a 3 cylinder engine that can produce 180HP isn't all that bad either. I'm sure it won't have much torque, but it would probably get like 4.5L/100kms or less. Thats more money in the pocket in the long run.

180hp and good fuel economy. OMG NO!!!! I'd take that over my underpowered gas guzzling vr6 in a heartbeat.

          What's wrong with a 3 cylinder?

It's a good idea for those who do alot of city driving and want to save at the pumps.

Three cylinder , awesome , the advancements in technology and variable valve timing & so on make some of those smaller motors fantastic ,not to mention better fuel/weight ratio with a lighter car could be a good set up. I had driven a turbo firefly which was tweaked years ago , alot of fun, Its not a V8 or a euro ,non the less fun and entertaining.

Fair enough. I guess I'm just more American (READ: No replacement for displacement) than I thought.

Oh well... just remember to get your 3-cylinders outta my VR6 way when we're in the Rockies.

My first car was a 3 cyl Tubro Sprint, and that car was fun as hell. If I could by that exact same car brand new, I wouldnt think twice. I love my euro cars, but for domestic, that car was as european as they get. Small, VERY fuel efficient, and quick enough for what it was. Wish I never sold her!!!

i love that vw is finally laying to rest the boat anchor we call the vr . and moving forward as not to become like the Americans in there mentality of larger is better . i think if vw can make a 1.4 (twin charged )create as much hp. as a 1.8t did and we love them why not save fuel reduce emissions and still have fun .i look forward to this revival of intelligent automotive thinking

I came into this topic thinking of the Suzuki G10 with 55 horse. Shame on me. I wouldn't mind 3 cylinders built right. 180hp is not bad.

That's a lot of displacement out of a 3 cylinder.. Shouldn't be too bad for a 3 cylinder variant of a model. If they are small enough maybe I'll figure out a way to swap one into my Fiat. Definitely would beat the 903cc 4 cylinder.

That's odd how they're bringing back odd #s on cylinders.
I almost bought a 5 cylinder Audi a couple of years ago.

I can bet that we will not see a 3CYL in any 1 series unless there going to bring the 118i or low end 1er's....

A 4 cyl is planned for the new 135 with 300HP as the turbo 6 from my car is heading to the new M.. With a few changes in power im sure....

Until i see it i wont believe it....

I could care less about fuel prices right now.... I want power.... and until they are coming out with 3Cyl with 300HP+ you can count me out... Im with you on this Deuce...

Makes me laugh cause everyone is crying about gas and how much it cost.... But dont think twice when the go and buy a bottle of water 500ML for 2 bucks....
