  • Replacing Mirror

My pass mirror got hit by a door in a parking lot, and the frame is broken/cracked. The glass and the motor/mount etc are all fine.

Anyone have any idea how much to repair? Does it need to be custom painted to match the car?

    Re: Replacing Mirror

Its gonna cost about 60 bux to get it painted!

If your lucky maybe just pick up an identical color one off of vortex for cheap!

And yea u can just change the exterior of the mirror, no need to take everything off(motor, stand)

        Re: Replacing Mirror

Here is a full DIY with pics on how to remove the mirror cap:
        http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?&id=4099628

If you want pre-painted then check Vortex, not many ppl with your color in town. Otherwise search for a used one on here/locally and then get it painted.

edit: I just checked TuneDub website and they are selling the entire housing (glass+cap+blah) for $120. Might be able to find one cheaper if someone is parting a car out.

That is a cable mounted mirror, not the same thing. Geoff I might still have an extra mirror cap around, I will have a look for it tonight.

              Re: Replacing Mirror

That would be great - I thought I'd be paying through the nose for the initial paint mixing and have to buy the whole thing since like you guys said not many people have bright green metalic (there's also bright green perl to cause confusion).

Still have to get it painted at a body shop or are there smaller places to do such small bits?

DIY and paint them black? I plan to do that with mine.

Unless you want to keep it stock that is.

                    Re: Replacing Mirror

Hoping to switch it to summer mode this weekend. I damaged the bumper a bit backing off some ice early in the winter so I may need to buy some new brackets etc - we'll see once I get the thing off. I hang my head in shame at how beat my car looked all winter. :(

Thx everyone for the help - bought a new cover for 65 from the dealer and Eurotuner hooked me up for some painting. Followed the vortex tutorial above and all is back to new again!
