    Re: whats the diffrence

my buddy had the fk silverline plus X coilovers in his GTI and they were sick, super low and and still a pretty smooth ride, I believe the plus x use koni shocks as well, but you would be looking at another 1000 bucks compared to the AK's. IMO you get wgat you pay for, if everyone wanted to buy coilovers for 500 bucks we would all be sittin on VMAXX coils. I'm going to be purchasing some FK streetline plus X coils pretty soon just because my buddy had them and he had no problems and they were really sickkk.

        Re: whats the diffrence

        $500 suspension,... is $500 suspension.
in the suspension category, the old saying "you get what you pay for" really rings true.
i've been through MANY suspensions over the years in the mk2, mk3, and mk4 platforms. i've also run auto-x's and a lot of open track-days.
when buying you should prioritize what matters most:
        -longevity
        -ride quality
        -adjustability
        -warrenty
the more of the above that you want, the more $$ you will spend.
the "if it's good enough for a Ferrari" quote mentioned above kinda rings true... although i don't really see the typical mk4 owner dropping the $$ on an Ohlins set-up!

for the "dood, i just took the deerfoot to glenmore corkscrew at 110 km/h!!" guy, or the "man, look at my car in the parking lot, it's like 1" off the ground".. FK products will work. i've had a cupkit of theirs, a highsport coilover set-up, and a silverline plus-x set-up. the first 2 were passable as suspension... that's pretty-much what i have to say about them. using adjustable koni-inserts, the plus-x were quite good and were obviously the best product out of the FK line. i could give a bazillion suspension scenarios for someone that was bored enough to listen... so to keep this short, if you want a temporary / going to sell the car in 2 years or less suspension, buy the entry-level FK product. they should really sell that **** with an expiration date.
I've "learned my lesson" in regard suspensions after spending the $$ on something "real" (the result of riding / driving numerous cars with "real" suspensions in them) and will say that it's worth saving the $ for something good. Bilstein, KW, H&R, Koni, Eibach,.. to name a few.
now that i'm back into a VW... then suspension going into the car will be a KW v2 set-up.
        good luck with your decision.

          Re: whats the diffrence

I bought the FK Streetline about two months ago from Concept1 (the ones on sale for 695), and I'm very happy with them. I have to say that these are my first set of coilovers so I can't compare them to anything else, but I expected a much stiffer ride.

So far they're holding up great.

What about KSports? I have them on my Mk2 and they are a great suspension for the money. Adjustable dampening, spring rate, and on the newer suspension setups (like yours), it has the pillowball top mount for camber. I bought them from Lawrence at Calgary Autoworks and he may have some in stock. For the price, it comes with alot of features. The only thing I dont like is the warranty, but even with H&R, it is limited lifetime. I talked to other guys in town with the KSports and all of them spoke highly of it. From some info off vwvortex, the only thing some people did not like was that the older versions did not take well to winter. The newer version of the coils apprently corrected this: "Electroplated body for protection from corrosion and rust" (from their website), so I think its been fixed. Speak to Lawrence; he is a great guy to deal with. Hope this helps.

+1 for Lawrence and Sam.. I didn't know that theyre now electroplated.. That was the only reason why I wasn't going to buy Ksports... Oh and was it still around $1300ish for the ksports?

Yes, they are 1300. Check his site or give them a call. I love them. I adjusted the dampening to the full hard setting and the car is definately "on rails". I actually pussy out on turns with this suspension.

Maybe when a track day comes I can really push it to the limits.
