  • whats the diffrence

hey guys im thinking about picking up some coils next week and would like to know what is the difference between the FK AK coils and the FK streetline coils
    below are links to both

    AK: http://concept1.ca/SUSPENSIONS/FK%20...KCoilovers.htm

    Street lines: http://concept1.ca/SUSPENSIONS/FK%20...0Coilovers.htm

from what i can tell the only difference is that the street lines can be adjusted in the rear and the ak's cant but concept 1 has the ak's on sale for 500 bucks so are the street lines worth the extra 200 bucks?

    car is a jetta 1.8T

    thanks
    Jonathan

I wouldn't touch any FK suspension with a 10 foot pole. I don't have any experience with them myself, but I have heard from several other people about their poor quality and parts breaking.

Bilstein or Koni's have a really really good rep. Up to you, I'm going to go for a set of bilstein in the summer. Like I said, I have never tried them myself, but I have heard a lot of bad stories about them. If you like them and they last, then I would just go for them.

I know there are a ton of people on here who run, or have run FK's in the past. It's probably the path I'd opt for if I was looking for coils. Check on the 'Tex for an insane amount of information.

Lots of people who owned FK in the past thought they were fine, but if they did it again they would probably spend a little more.

If you're putting something on your car, ask if it'd be good enough if you had a Ferrari. If the answer is yes, then you should do it. If the answer is no, you should keep saving :P

There probably is. Doesn't mean they were good though. Meh, I really shouldn't give my opinion seeing as I have never tried them before. Just heard from most people that have used them to just save your money and buy some real suspension.

i run AK's on my mk3 jetta, they are adjustable in the front and rear. Had no problems with them so far, they have been on for about a year maybe less. And i ran them all winter. And they can go really low. I have no complaints with them, i like them

I think Hopya was running some FK's on his MKIV 1.8t and said he didn't like them, I could be wrong though.

I cant speak for coils, but I have the FK cup kit in my mk3 for a few good months now, no complaints, and we just installed the cup kit on my gf's mk4 and so far its pretty good. but then again I havent ever tried any different suspension so I dont quite know what to compare it to.

No complaints about my FK cup kit on my GTI either. If I had to be nit-picky I'd say the shocks are a little harsh on sqare edged bumps and the front is a little lower than I'd like. Given how low I am I don't really know if better suspension at the same height would be any different. I'm happy with my set-up.

I'm still on stock suspension, I still got a ways to go before the car's finished. IMO I would save the extra money and buy koni's or a coilovers that offer dampening.. I am picky with suspension and like to drive comfortably and be low at the same time.. Then again I would think getting coilovers in Calgary gets sketch due to the weather that the coils going through during the winter (gravel, salt, etc..).. Also another issue that you'll come across with are broken axles and crappy steering input/geometry.. So if you want to do it right a lot of factors have to be looked at.. But like I said im picky with these things.. I want a functional suspension that will work on par with stock or better..
