I think expansion is a good thing but I think that focus should be maintained. There should still be a common thread among the members. Maybe VAG motors?

Hey guys... I'm not an official paid up member so take this as you will...

If the club/forum get's revamped to a more generic VW, how will it be any different from clubveedub.com? It's a local club that takes in all types of VWs.

Personally I come to this forum because I don't have to go waist deep though previous generation info. There is nothing wrong with older VW's - in fact I think they are cool, but it's not what attracted me to come here.

My suggestion is keep the name newveedub.com. It's cool. Add a slogan something like "Dubs of the new millenium" or something. VW's from the year 2000+ only and give exceptions to any existing members older than 2000. That way it keeps everyone happy and keeps a level of exclusivity.

      Just my thoughts...

I am glad that something was brought up about this. Props to Chris on the original post. Even though I am still a fairly new member (2003) I feel that "elections" should be held to eradicate any tyranny (not saying that there is any). Maybe there could be a main leader of sorts, but we could hold votes on issues and discuss them a little more formally. If people in the club get involved and don't leave it to one person to take the shots, the club will progress and progress. I feel there could be a name change, but I really lke the fact that I am part of the newer dub commmunity. We are all discussing topics that relate somewhat to our newer dubs and yes, it does give a sense of exclusivity.

Okay so most everyone seems to agree that we should come up with a more arbitrary system of site/club management and ownership. How can we actually move towards this model? Can we actually set up a club "account" or something like that at a bank? Should we come up with a list of actual positions and their responsibilities? Do we begin taking nominations for a future vote?

Potentially I see room for maybe a president, technical person and possibly treasurer. Appointing too many people to official positions just doesn't work - its tempting to come up with all kinds of vice-presidential positions like recruitment or events or sponsorship or whatnot, but in reality two or three people will work much better. Trust me on this, I have seen many groups fall apart.

Oh and by the way, I think maybe you're right, renaming the club could do more harm than good to the number of potential new visitors we get. People come to the site because it is a source for new veedubs. Being focused is very important. I don't think that the new Mk5 coming out will be a problem to the club.

I'm sorry guys... I didn't realize that I was doing such a poor job starting and maintaining NewVeeDub. Even if a personal attack wasn't intended... it certainly has come across as such.

At the end of the day, this idea was my baby, and now it's turned into a political mix-up. No worries, I think of this as a business... I'll make sure I don't take any of the above posted comments personally.

The best thing I can do at this point, is run in the next "running" and hope to get re-elected. :hangloose

Man don't take things personally. If anything this thread shows that the club YOU created is SUCH a success that people want to see it moving to a higher level.

I would definitely say that there is a very good chance for the very same people who lead the club now to be doing so in the future... it will just be determined in a democratic way.

NewVeeDub is known for their 99.5+ Volkswagen member base... not for older Volkswagen (as nice as they are) -- that's just what NewVeeDub is...

Yes don't get offended. This basically says if you want some changes and if you want things happening, then its a chance to get those heard and put them in action. If we have people running for presidency, then it shows that they are dedicated and want to benefit NVD. Again with the name thing, it wouldn't be a bad change because of the mk5's, but an alteration to it could be good. Or a slogan as suggested.

I agree with the ideas that:
                          1) We should hold elected positions
                          2) We should keep the name NewVeeDub... and keep the club for MK4's and newer.

To change the name would be a little harsh... This club started with peter's hard work and effort, and everything that has come of it is essentially because of that. So, in a sense, we all owe Peter a big THANKYOU!

With that said, I like the idea of running the club through elections, with positions such President, and Treasurer voted on yearly. With the format it is in now, if Peter somehow left... this club would be toast.

yea okay this is what we should do. keep the club for 99.5's and up VAG cars so if you have an audi come on in. We should vote on roles for people if they will accept the resonsibility behind them.

Yeah Peter, no offense at all, we know you put a ton of work into this (along with others help) but the whole thing when you were talking about selling and buying a Benz or something. Then what would happen to the rest of the club. I think that its more of that kind of thing that people are worried about.
