After speaking with a few members, I have begun to notice that there are many who would like to have a more democratic approach to the club.

Namely, rather than appointing moderators and the like, we would organize an election whereupon people were nominated for each position (Pres. Vice Pres. Moderators, etc) and then every member could have their say as to who they want in Administrative positions.

Elections would be held every year and the newly appointed admins would be named each January. Admins would not be able to hold the same position two years running.

So as to prevent an admin from having to privately fund the site, the hosting of the site would be taken care of by membership monies.

Please feel free to post your thoughts.

I think for the club to continue to expand this would be an excellent way to get members involved and increase participation and promotion of the club and it's activities. The only way this will work is if people are willing to put forth some time to help out the cause.

I think that if we want the club to grow we will eventually need to take this route. This will keep the club alive and healthy for much longer, especially if people decide to leave the club for one reason or another.

For example, a while back a certain someone was shopping for a Porshe or BMW. Right now, the club would basically shut down the day when one person decided they could no longer run it. If this happened it would be a disappointment to many people. On the other hand, it is unrealistic to expect someone to run newveedub for the rest of their life, right?

This is especially a concern if there are monies involved from our members. If people pay for a membership they want the security of knowing that even if the two or three leaders of the club are hit by a bus that morning, they will still have a club!

I am not saying that I have a problem with anyone or anything so don't take this post the wrong way. I just think that Chris has a good point.

On the other hand, I have seen clubs get over-involved with internal politics and just fall apart. If such a system is something we are thinking about, it should be as simple and straightforward as possible...

I agree also, I think that it would make the club that much better when there is input coming in from all sides. Since this club is growing I think that changes are in need. Just my .02

I would have to agree. For all I know, I might be moving from Calgary to some other province or maybe even the United States for a different school next year. I'm going to be honest with you, being an admin, or club head guy is not alot of fun -- it's work -- and you don't get paid -- so at the best of times, it's not really rewarding.

I think that if we are to elect someone, we should have a restriction on who can vote and who cannot. Like... if you just signed up for the membership discounts, I don't think that person should have the right to vote. I think the minimum amount of time someone has to be with the club (an active member at that) should be 6-months. That way, that member knows how the club functions, what's going on, and what might change with a different person making a gist of the decisions.

At the very least, the person elected should have skills with Internet Explorer, Adobe Photoshop, Vbulletin and FTP transfer programs. At the end of the day, very basic skills, but a requirement in my books.

aye aye. The load should really be carried by as many people as possible. "Many hands make the load light" and elections work IMO.

Kor is exactly right. I was thinking the same thing about a month back. "What if the moderators just left? Then what would happen to the forum?" It would be a very good idea to explore a way to prevent such a collapse if the head doods quit or bought different cars.

Yes maybe the club should be revamped into a generic "VW" or "Euro car" club with a new look website and new elected admins sometime here in the fall. We already have some interest in the club from people with Mk3 cars or with Audis etc.

i agree that NVD is not going to have many NVD's in it when the mk5's come out, so might as well make the change now.

oh, and elections are cool in my books.

Peter defined new vee dubs a while back as MK4 or newer lol.

Elections, sure whatever doesn't matter to me. But props to Peter and Blair for doing most of it until now.

Well, here is my input. IMO we should let any dubber join up. MK3s whatever. Colin was a really cool guy and should we turn on back on him because he owns a mk3 hell no.. A name change could work too like ABveedub or something like that i dunno.
As far as other euros I would love to see some audis come by. In the end its just guys and girls bullcrapping about the cars they own and mods.

I think we all need to change our opinions of peoples ideas too. Not the rice hating but the fact that say I dont' have suspension so i get mocked for it (not really but....) and then others don't get mocked who have a completely stock car with no mods at all. In the end its the persons car so they can do what their wallet and time can handle. Hey aslong as its not a honda right hahaha
