Tonight at the meeting -- I will ask what's not "democratic" about the website and club and what can be improved to make it "more" democratic. Part of the rules when subscribing to this forum are as follows:

Although the administrators and moderators of the NewVeeDub.com Club Forum will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and neither the owners of NewVeeDub.com Club Forum or Jelsoft Enterprises Limited (developers of vBulletin) will be held responsible for the content of any message.

By clicking the Agree button, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

The owners of NewVeeDub.com Club Forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.

If for any reason people are offended by both my responsibility and the moderator’s responsibility to moderate this forum, it's suggested that you leave the forum or correct your fault.

As I cannot make it to the meeting tonight, I suppose I will ring in with what I think will improve by moving to a more democratic approach - and Peter, please do not take this personally - it is a reflection of what goes on when only ONE person is running things.

      1) Presently, any changes to the site are completely under the discretion of the self-appointed person in charge. Example of this was the major re-structuring that went on the other morning, only to be returned to normal shortly thereafter.

In my mind, things like this should not be carried out simply on one person's fancy or whim. With an elected "governing body", any decisions like that would be made by a group.

Another example was when the site was changed from a website to simply a forum, and then had all the colors changed. This is a decision that should have been agreed upon before the changes were made. Not just "I've changed stuff. Hope you like it." I realize that there was a poll put in place regarding this, but it was put in place after the changes.

      2) The club belongs to each member just as much as it belongs to anyone else - no matter how long they've been a member. Sure people signed a waiver of sorts when registering for the club, but there are members who are unhappy with the way things are being run and would like change. Why deny them the opportunity to make changes to the club that they desire?

I mention the waiver because some of the reasons why they are unhappy is due to the deletion and editing of posts - certainly nothing is wrong with editing or deleting posts for legitimate reasons, but when they are being edited due to a personal disagreement, or disliking, then it's a whole other story.

      3) Everyone in the club has the right to be treated with respect. There have been instances where members have been blatantly targeted and disrespected on the boards by the Admin. For that reason alone, I can see why there are those who wish to change the way this club is run and lead.

These are but a few of my concerns. As I stated previously, this is not intended as a personal attack Peter. You asked for specifics, and so I am presenting them to you.

Now I ask you - why try to dissuade the members of this club from electing someone to run it?

      Chris.

My personal concerns are as follows
        - swear filtering.. we all know how each other talk. Turn it off but leave the sailor talk to a minimum.
        - deleting my posts.. I am really sick and tired of my posts being deleted from threads.. IE sean talking about his boost going up and saying he was going 180 on deerfoot. I posted saying thats way to fast for that road and very dangerous.. My post gets deleted

          As simple as this.

If someone doesn't like that way things are being run -- don't join (and if you are a member, and you dislike the club and the forum -- your money will gladly be returned, minus the days you have utilized the membership). No one is bending your arm to join and forcing you to pay money to join the club -- heck we've got members who use the forum and who attend meetings that aren't even members at all -- they come to say hello and to grab a bite to eat.

From the member in which I have discussed this issue -- they either haven't even seen this post, 2) don't care for such things to occur, or 3) are happy with the ways things are being run. You, Billip, Bill, Simon, and Blair are NOT the entirety of NewVeeDub -- so if you guys aren't happy -- then I'm sorry -- but no one else (or so it seems, we'll see tonight) seems to think things are being run poorly.

Oh well... no worries... if I want to watch or hear news on politics... I'll watch FOX news -- I surf these boards because I like Volkswagens and the people who I discuss such topics with.

There's a time and place for such posts. When Sean had made a post with reference to his increased boost pressure with his Stage-2 turbo kit -- he happened to be driving down Deerfoot Trail and creeping up to the speed of 180KM/h. Such posts (like the one in question) deviate from the planned subject discussion to something totally different (it's called off-topic posts).

For such posts, keep it in the lounge -- simple as that -- a simple rule -- just like the swear filter.

Granted Peter - but when we bring these concerns to you, nothing gets done, and we do not want to quit the club, then what are we supposed to do?

This is a prime example of what I'm talking about - Quite frankly, you're being an ass - saying that you would like to resolve things and then saying that we can **** off if we don't like things.

Why must I leave the club if I'm not happy with it? Why don't I (along with others) have the right to changes things? This is what i don't understand - this is my club just as much as it is anybody's - regardless of how long they've been a member.

              Chris.

I'm a full-time student who currently doesn't own a computer. What would you like me to do. People complain that the website is giving them errors -- I call our provider (many time at that) and ask for resolution -- this isn't a two second phone call. Nevertheless... this is a hobby, not a job. If you have a serious problem with the website, then you take life way to seriously, and Internet is not your "escape".

Chris what do you want changed? What seems to be the problem?

                  Peter

EDIT: since your added to your post -- I will do the same.

Peter - you are missing the point. I don't have a problem with the website - I have a problem with the way in which this club is being run.

What club are you talking about? I see no club here just a message board! Maybe a 'local' message board but definitely no club. Maybe go out on you own and start a club but don't come in here on this guys board and try to makle this whole thing a club. Clubs suck ass anyways. If you can already tell it has started into a possibly huge arguement.

                              Just an outsiders opinion!
