just wondering what you guys think of them?? i've considered buying one for a while, i'd have to sell my gti first of course.

i like the size and i'd prefer a wagon. i like that they are fairly rare.
would you guys buy one??

i think there nice especially for a wagon a friend of mine from school has one black on black, one of the only wagons i like there fairly quick too and the sound is to die for!!!!

Hate to say it but that car is a maintenance nightmare. Great motor but even the simplest maintenance requires the motor be removed. I'd stay far away if I were you!

so what passat would be the best? keeping in mind that i prefer the wagon. maybe i should wait till 5th ave has a used one that meets the ginch approval.
i really want something bigger and awd would be nice too. now the wife got a new 09 civic, so she is off my back and i can get something cheaper than the gti.

X2. When I killed my passat 1.8t (a car I really liked) I really wanted another passat and looked seriously at W8s but could not bring myself to pull the trigger. The issue is the engine bay was never designed for a motor that large so to get at anything lots of stuff either has to come off, out or both. Like burn out a headlamp? Off comes the bumper etc.. Sweet ride but maintenance ass pain.

complete engine failures that cost $$$$$$
crazy engine maintenance costs
brakes are $$.. they have the same HP2 brakes as a B5 S4

I was looking at one, until searching on vortex for W8 problems,
seems like most W8 motors die at 60k miles.
they were only sold for a few years, and discontinued????, then motors started failing.

even the new 3.6 passats have motor failures from what i've read online.. not good

i enjoy my 04 1.8t 5 speed 4mo. Most of the 1.8t issues are well documented so no surprises there. Not super fast but good for the winter. popps diesel is sick for torque if you can find one.

My bro's wife has a 04 Passat 2.0 TDI and loves it. My bro chipped it for her for christmas, it's a very quick car for its size, and like posted above. A torque monster! It also is pretty efficient getting 800+ km's to the tank at only $45 to fill it.

that's perfect guys, no w8 for me. gotta see if i can love my gti over the next few weeks. otherwise i may look at changing
