I cant make my mind up... Car Stereo or a body kit....?

Ive doing doing some research on kits and prices (Im new to this modding stuff so bear with me please.) and I wondered if anyone had ordered bodykits from the US..?

    I found these two sites:

    http://www.grounddynamics.com/

(They have a R32 Body kit for $477.00. I am tempted...)

Stay away from any fibreglass kits. Any impact and the hole thing will crack. Do some research on vortex as well, there are a ton of reviews of different brands including eurogear and the very controversial dubtechnik.

            Re: Body Kit

If you do not want one of the very few super-high-quality kits, I would opt for a car stereo.

Also if you get a body kit, do not cheap out on the paint or you will need to get it resprayed the next year, trust me... lots of places that do a body kit special will leave you with a bumper that just won't hold up to rock chips etc.

Also don't underestimate the cost for the install and paint.

And you will reduce your resale value, probably, unless its an OEM kit.

Get a stereo. I love my stereo and wouldn't change it for a body kit any day of the week. It all depends though. Do you go on any trips with your car or have a decent commute in the morning because if you don't then maybe a body kit would be better. I think a really nice stereo>a nice body kit.

My theory has always been this. a bodykit is something you cant see while driving. Its nice for others to look at and admire, but really does nothing for you. A stereo is something you can listen to and enjoy, so the benefit is for you and not the public. My opinion is the same as DJ's. Stereo>bodykit

A real car stereo installation is no walk in the park though. If you plan to do it yourself that is. If you have never done one, or even taken any of your panels off your car before it will be a 20 hour process or so to rip all the panels off, run the power down one side of the car and the speaker wires and rca's down the other. If you want I can show you my car stereo install with my 4 crossovers mounted on the underside of the trunk, my amps on the back seat and my sat radio and capacitor on the back seat as well.I really like the setup. If you get someone else to do it, I hope they know what their doing. I could never let someone else take my car apart to do my car stereo. I couldn't trust that everything would be the same way it was before. That's just me though :P

My car was done by one of the install guys at visions, but I chose which guy it was. He's worked on all my stuff and I fully trusted him so it was cool and he's great at what he does. I agree tho, you really need to know what your doing to get a good setup.

DJ, I wouldnt mind taking a look at your setup. Are you gonna be at the may Meeting?

I could show you some pictures of my install, there maybe even some on the forums still. I am even thinking of selling the box and subs and building a new one this summer. That being said if you are going to do it yourself at least do it right and read a ton of stuff. When I did the Van it took likely over 40-50hours just to wire the alarm/speaker/headunit etc and modify speaker mounts etc. Hopefully this summer I can finish fiberglassing the dash speaker mounts and start the sub box.
