I have a really low SVT Contour, and I always just get some small pieces of 2x4's and drive up onto them. Jack it up at its jack points, and then put it on jack stands if i need to get underneathe the car.

yea be really careful if you decide to use that, on the Mk4 at least the rear "hook" is not actually a tow hook as someone on CVD found out (the hard way). So it is not meant for any sort of load.

(note: if you find it hard to believe take out your owners manual and you will see that only the front thread in eye hook is listed for towing no mention of the rear which apparently had something to do with the manufacturing process when the car was on the assembly line and as the person on CVD and many others on vortex have found out it stretches really easily when you try to pull your car using it)
