  • Side skirts and jack stands

So this is the first time that I've needed to jack up my mk4 that has side skirts.

I know you can drive up on wood and jack it up just fine, but where would I place the jack stands??

If it helps I only need to raise up the rear, thanks

I'm planning on getting side skirts soon, and I thought about this issue as well. Anyone know the easiest way of going around this?

If you only need to jack the rear then just jack on the rear tow hook, works like a charm and no blocks needed.

Oh this works? Where can I put the jack stands? I need to just spin my coilovers down a little bit, but don't trust the jack alone.

So the tow hook works. Great. Never thought about it before.

          What about the front end?

A low profile jack works too

Find the pinch welds under neath the rockers and behind the skirts. They will hold. Stay near the rear and dont place them near the centre.

Haha, I just went and checked and there IS enough room for the jack stands to hold there still, I thought the skirts covered them. That's good then.

I'm not sure how trusting I am of jacking it up using the tow hook though.

For the front i know its easy, there is a spot under near the wheel and i use that one all the time. If you need a picture pm me sometime Pistol Pete, I will take one for you.

Any more ideas for where I can place my jack? It is a pretty low profile cheapy I got from Crappy Tire.

I don't put the jack right on the hook itself but slightly in front of the loop where it meets the car, if that makes sense. Chris (turbomeyers) was the first to suggest that one to me.

Remeber if you do that (jack on rear tow hook) to have the car in gear/front wheels blocked if only lifting the rear. Ask me how I know?

                    Edit-
Normally not a big deal when jacking from the side is my point. BUt when you jack from the rear, she'll roll real good I've found.

I have those lift pads on my car, easy to install. I haven't used them a ton but they seem to work fine.

                              Stonewall,

I was going to switch over to summers this weekend and maybe install those pads. I called Glenmore Audi and they had no idea what I was talking about. The part number didn't even come up in their database.
