    Re: Belt Squealing

I had this for AGES on my 1.8 as well. I tried everything in the book with no success. But eventually it went away on its own.

      Do NOT use WD-40!

A friend of mine for some reason did this to his Xterra, it went from a little squeal to something so bad now the entire neighbourhood can hear it. HAH!

Doesnt it just need tensioning / adjusting properly?

1.8t has an auto tensioner, get a new belt and put it on yourself. No very expensive, and not very hard to do. The belt might cost you $20, time might take you 30 mins to do. By the time you get the belt dressing the money saved between that and the belt, you might as well just have gone for the belt.
Replace the belt, noise will be gone.

              Re: Belt Squealing

If you have recently degreased and dressed your engine bay, this is common because you have crap on the belts. If you have, then some brake cleaner will be the best to use. It will clean off all of the oils that may be on the belt.

If you haven't cleaned your engine bay recently, then you belt is probably worn and stretched. Its very simple to replace. For me anyways, cause I have done a butt load. All you'll need is a 17mm wrench to pull back the tensioner. On a 1.8T, you may find it easier to remove the belly pan cover and the lower passenger side cover to put the belt around the crank pulley.

If you need a hand, and your close to the North west end of Calgary, I'll help you out.

                Re: Belt Squealing

Yeah if you have done many, 5-8 mins easily for the belt, but I was giving a non tech time.
I am sure Mitchel on Demand gives you 20 mins for billing time though...
