Re: Calling 1.8T's
Back in the newveedub days we had a dyno day at c1. I think kris (Haxor) had the biggest #'s for stock turbo 200whp a lot more torque though. I wont get into the techmotion dyno day as that dyno although consistant gives low #'s and is better for tuning than bragging rights.
I had gt28r, 2.5"brullen exhaust, i, fmic, and that setup was fun for the street. Linear powerband, awsome fuel economy, and aside from a few sensors it was pretty reliable, never left me stranded.2012 gti, 2012 mustang.

Re: Calling 1.8T's
it all depends on what you want the car to do.
you mentioned emmisisons, so i am assuming you want a reliable driver. therefore, get a chip, an exhaust, an intake if you care. (its like 2hp max, which is not a lot of bang for your dollar)
if you want to make any kind of significant power, get a big-turbo kit. the GT28RS kits are awesome, and make decent power.
the Kinetic T-3/T-4 kits can make reliable high HP motors. its about 3500 US with software and injectors, but it makes 280 or so at the wheels.
the ATP eliminator kits can get you up to 400hp, on stock internals, but then you are getting into all kinds of new problems.
always remember with this stuff, it doesnt stop at more power. you will kill your clutch, need a good FMIC, probably want a good exhaust, need better tires, bigger brakes, etc.
my 1.8t MK2 car was set up to make about 300 WHP, and it was super fun. ran a T3/T4 .63, big injectors, standalone management, custom manifold, FMIC, Stage 4 clutch, Peloquin Diff, and Huge brakes. even with all that, the car was super hard to drive in traffic, and sucked on anything but warm dry pavement.
hope that helps.
oh yeah, and it looked like this:
