hey guys, the last 2 days the stock alarm on my car, 2000 gti 1.8t, has started to go off at random times, anyone know what might be causing this or a way to stop it from happening? is there a fuse in the fuse box for the stock security system/alarm?

Re: Help: alarm going off randomly, mk4 gti
Check your batteries voltage. I have known this to happen when the battery is on its way out.
And another reason could be that one of your door latches maybe sending an open signal sporadically. This is also known to happen. You can only check it with a VW scan tool or a VAG scan tool under measureed value blocks.TWO TON ENGINE LIFT/CRANE FOR RENT

Re: Help: alarm going off randomly, mk4 gti
interesting thing about the battery, cause recently after driving, turning off the car and getting back in it pretty quickly it wouldnt really want to start right away, kinda of struggle a bit to get started, would that be a hint that the battery was starting to go down?sigpic

Re: Help: alarm going off randomly, mk4 gti
yeah man sounds like your battery is no longer capable of holding a charge... or being really crappy at it... if its been running for awhile the battery should've been recharged... try just letting the car idle a few to charge the battery up... but if it was me i'd just swap it out for a stronger battery..drive green ||

Re: Help: alarm going off randomly, mk4 gti
If it was your battery that was low on charge your vehicle would never start..
Common Problems:Radio not pushed in all the way, hood latch and it being a hatch back
look at the micro switch in there as well probable soaked in washer fluid.
I agree with using Vag because it will tell you were the alarm was triggered from.
