  • Engine oil question for VR6 guys

    Hey guys,

Spring / summer is around the corner, and I'm planning to change the engine oil, previously I have brought the car to George and I know that his shop uses 5W40S.

So I was wondering what kind of engine oil you guys use? I'm planning to go with the Castrol Syntec but I heard Mobil 1 is good too soo....not sure which one to go for. What kind of oil do you guys use for your VR6 engines?

VR6 use Valvoline mineral and change every 5000kms.
Stay away from Castrol.(it absorbs to much moisture and builds up scum like crazy)

They really do love fresh good quality oil, mine starts to feel like it wants new oil once I hit 6,000 KM's.

Synthetic... every 8,000 kms as per owner's manual.

...unless of course... you bag the livin' sh*t out of your car... then o.k. fine, change it earlier... but seriously... other than that... any more frequent than the owner's manual stipulates is a waste of money.

          Cheers... Deuce.

Nearing 200,000 I have no issue changing it a little more often, especially after long ass trips.

              "Nearing 200,000 "... Fair enough.

I should have added to my comment above:
... unless of course your car has 150,000+ km's on it... then... hells ya... change that oil!

Haha... all this oil talk reminds me... I'm due for 15,000 mile'r right away!

              Cheers...

In the winter I run Castrol Syntec 5w-40. In the summer I run 20W-50 Castrol Syntec. But I also beat the crap out of the VR from time to time so I need the thicker sh1t.

+1, I don't feel safe running dino juice in my VR, they run pretty hot and from experience with turbo vehicles dino juice breaks down pretty quick at hotter temps. You can never have enough protection!
