  • Arrgg MAF

I do believe I just lost my second MAF in 2 1/2 months. Oh joy. Gonna set Tunedub up on speed dial.

Quick test to figure out if it's gone, unplug it and see if the problems go away. Another thing are you running a stock airfilter or have you upgraded to an oiled/aftermarket filter setup of some sort?

Fair enough. I don't really know it's gone. But the car runs when it is unpluged and not when it is. Partly I hope it is gone cause that is at least a known quantity (albeit a $200.00 one). What else it may be I don't know. Regardless somethin is broke and it saps the joy out of driving it :( Oh ps I do have a drop in k&n in a 24v vr6 Gti no mods.

try without k&n for a while. They are sort of notorious for coating MAF's in a layer of oil.

If that is the case, is there any way to clean a MAF without destroying it??

            Re: Arrgg MAF

A bath of isopropal alcohol or a spray of contact cleaner is known to clean mafs.

CNC maf cleaner is what i used. It was around 10 bux at Napa. If you look it up on google you will know what to look for!

This works great. Used it several times.

Crank position sensor... God only knows why the car would only run after the MAF was unpluged... Have Tunedub on speed dial. A six year old dub can keep you in your toes. Thanks for all the advice.

Crank Position Sensor not working=Dead car
unplugging the Maf should have no effect on it.
